Why would they push the deadline back?

My LVN school had a application deadline of Dec. 4th, 2014 at 4:00pm. I just received and email stating that they would be extending the deadline to Dec. 17th, 2014 at 7:00pm AND are extending two more TEAS testing dates.

This slightly ****** me off because I worked very hard to apply within the deadline (even within the first leg of the interview process) Of course I have everything turned in and MY process is over. Just waiting now.

My question is why would they do this? Not enough acceptable applicants? What do you think? I dont know why I care.... but I do.

This is the email, they even said something like "if you or anyone you know would like to apply...blah blah blah.."

Original Email:

The application deadline for the Vocational Nurse program has been extended. Applications are now due by Wednesday, December 17th before 7:00 pm. Applicants must submit all documentation to the Student Services office to be considered for the January 20th program.

In addition, Student Services has added two more TEAS V test dates on Monday, December 8th from 2:00 pm to 6:30 pm and Wednesday, December 17th from 9:30 am to 2:00 pm.

Please review the attached documents for details regarding application requirements. Required documents must be submitted to the Student Services office in person. Upon submitting documentation to the Student Services office, applicants will need to present their current government issued photo ID and social security card to a staff member. Documentation submitted will not be returned to applicants. All documents submitted become part of the confidential records retained by the {PROGRAM NAME}

Applicants will be contacted for interviews and notified of results by the end of December.

If you are someone you know is not eligible to apply for the Vocational Nurse program based on their previous medical experience or training please see the attached 2014-2015 Program Schedule regarding other programs {PROGRAM NAME} currently offers. Programs begin January 2015 and the Student Services office is currently registering for these programs.

Let me know what you think, Im neurotic... so Im over-thinking..

I understand, but I'm almost sure it's probably because of lack of applicants, my program pushed our start date back because lack of applicants I wouldn't worry much, good luck!

The giveaway was the line about "if you or anybody you know ....." invitation.

Right?

But why would they tell me Th there were 80 applicants 2 months ago then refuse to tell me a couple weeks ago for fear of intimidating students?

...I can understand your frustration ....I think it could because of this, but I would not worry too much... your still in the running *hang in there*

Yeah some programs are like that if they dont have enough students they wont start the program. So they will wait. It was a school that I was appling to like that. And I decided to go to another school that had more applicants ad was harder to get into. I got lucky and got in and they only selected 20 students out of hundreds. And we started on time. And we have been rolling.. good luck!

They aren't delaying the start date just extending the application date

There a going to be a lot of minor annoyances throughout school and your career. I wouldn't be too concerned with this, and would not waste energy worrying about it.

A few years ago, open enrollment for benefits at my hospital was only a week long--a week I happened to be on vacation. So I took time from my vacation to register online for my benefits. After I was home for a day or two, I checked my work email to find one "Second chance for open enrollment." They added a second one week period for open enrollment--after my vacation. Annoying? A little. Worth getting upset? Nope. Roll with the punches and learn when to (and when not to) work yourself up over something.

But why would they tell me Th there were 80 applicants 2 months ago then refuse to tell me a couple weeks ago for fear of intimidating students?

Well I hate to say this but SCHOOLS LIE. They just do and NOTHING is set in stone. NOTHING. My Mom teaches an top RN program at a great university and let me tell you nursing programs are a hot mess. Hearing stories from the inside makes you wonder how they even get students through. Try to let the changes roll of your back, this will not the last.

A program that I was in delayed the start of the first semester by six weeks "to tend to matters". They provided six weeks of meaningless busywork and never did one thing to make up the time to the affected students. Can't exactly walk away because one feels shortchanged, after all, they are the ones that are calling the shots.

@Jen_Loves_Nursing I've had a couple of programs I've applied to do the same thing- I think it helps their acceptance percentage. However, I was told at an information session that they tend to accept students who submit early and are motivated. I'm sure it will work out well for you in the end!

Thank you for the encouragement!
