hello there. i'm not an lpn as of yet, but i will be in 2008 permitting if i pass the test. i'm not really good in math and i have disliked it all my life. as you know, nurses need a lot of math in order to do doseage calculations, ht. and wt., surface area, drug doseages for peds, monitoring iv, giving im, sq, or id injection etc...i hope math won't be my downfall as a nurse because i really love nursing! does anybody have any suggestions about an easier way to do mental math for drug calculations??? any help will be appreciated. thank you so much. :):):)

Don't worry your post wasn't too long. I wish you good luck and hope that your clinicals go great today!!! yuo should be proud of yourself for getting your resident to eat more and drink her fluids, that's great and that just reminds you of why you wanted to become a nurse:nurse::nurse::nurse:!!! That's why I want to become a nurse, to help people and make a difference!!! I am abut 4 weeks away from taking my first math class at my school-I will be taking to more math classes after this one, the one i will be taking in 4 weeks is basic math. Do you think that will help me to understand nursing math better? the next two math classes after basic math will be what my school calls Alegebra 1A and Alegebra 1B-I think that means Alegebra 1 & 2. I picked these math classes to refresh my memory and help me to understand nursing math better but it might be kind of hard because I will be taking them all online!!!:uhoh3::uhoh3::uhoh3: If I have any problems with these classes or i get stuck on solving any problems or equations will you help me, if you can? I would really appreciate it:):):)

Hello Missy. thank you. Yes, the math c;asses that you wi;l be taking will indeed help you with Nursing. A lot of math in Nursing is just basic Algebra 1 and 2. Yes, if you need any help when you do take your math clases, I will be happy to help if I can. Alll, you have to do is just PM me or post it on here. :) It's no problem. Well, I just wanted to tell you that last clincials on Monday went well. I did my assessment as told and I took a test on "Health Promotion for the Older Adult." I wanted an A, but I got a B. Tomorrow, I have clinicals as well and this time our teacher will pick our residents for us! It was supposed to be last class (On monday), but she changed it to tomorrow. Wish me luck. So you take care and please keep me posted. :):):):nurse:

I definitey wish you luck. really hope that you get in into the LVN program. Well, sorry that I have not replied; I've been soo busy with HW and studying for the ACT (American College Test). It's a test that evaluates how much you've learned from high school. The tests are not mandatory; but I want to go to college, so I have to take it. Everything was easy except the science portion. I hope I did good. Anyways, clinicals was a little harder for me this time around because I had a resident who likes to hit back. Yes, I got hit but I'm okay. :) I only had to deal with her for the week; so next week, it's another resident. Though, I must say, I felt so sorry for my resident becuase I bet you she is angry at the world; she likes to remain in control. So I'll let you know how clinicals go on Tuesday. :):):):nurse:Keep me posted okay....

Hey ther! How are you today, Missy. ok, I'm gonna keep this short because I still have to tell you how clinicals will go tomorrow. Yes, I'm am sooo glad that you are as passionate about your nursing as I am. When you do go for your LVN let me know, so I can help you practice or if I had already taken the NCLEX-PN test, I can let you know how it goes. I wish you good luck in your classes. I'm not too fond of World Lit, but the Health and Human Services in the U.S. sounds interesting!! Don't let the math scare you. If it's one thing I've learned about math it's don't let your fear overcome you. WE can deal with this together. I don't like math, but now that I am going to become a nurse, I'll do anything in my power to become a successful nurse. I'm sure that your math class will go fine. Let me know how it goes when you take it! OK! :) You take care, enjoy your day and I'l let you know how clinicals go tomorrow. :):):):nurse:

have you ever considered enrolling in a remedial math class at a local community college or adult education school? sometimes they're also termed "developmental math classes." they're intended to help adults in the community to brush up on the basics. you cannot begin to understand med math until you've thoroughly mastered the basics. good luck!

thank you for your suggestion. I have not considered that option. However, I'm only 17 and still in my senior year in high school. My teacher told me that she will review the basics of math so we can be prepared for medical math. I've tried a couple problems of dosage calculations and they are not that difficult. Howver, I still want to improve my math skills.... Maybe I'll get some tutoring or something.

Hey missy. How are you? I hope that everything is going good. I know this is like a thousand days late, but clincials went great that day. I believe that day it was a thursday. I think, if I could remember, that we chose to worked with one resident. We are still in pairs. It was the same resident as on Tuesday. I think we had to finiish the packet our teacher gave us to fill out. Then that was it. I also have clinicals tomorrow... I'll let u know how that goes...:):):):nurse:keep me posted!
