I Need help with Medical Math...

hello there. i'm not an lpn as of yet, but i will be in 2008 permitting if i pass the test. i'm not really good in math and i have disliked it all my life. as you know, nurses need a lot of math in order to do doseage calculations, ht. and wt., surface area, drug doseages for peds, monitoring iv, giving im, sq, or id injection etc...i hope math won't be my downfall as a nurse because i really love nursing! does anybody have any suggestions about an easier way to do mental math for drug calculations??? any help will be appreciated. thank you so much. :):):)

Yes, I would appreciate it if you keep my posted and let me know when you get excepted in the LVN program and when you take your math class. It's good that you can't wait to start your Bio 100. I love biology. Well clinicals went great. I did my assessment on my resident as usual. I've gotten pretty good at it too! I can do my assessment in 30 minuites. I am soo thankful for the break.:) but I now have to start studying my my midterms; esp my Nursing. It won't be that hard. I hope! Well, I wish you a very Merry Christmas :icon_rolleyes::Holly1::Holly2::Holly2::Holly2::Holly3::Holly3: and a very Happy New Year! I hope you get what you want and take care. It probably justs looks scary because you haven't even attempted the math. I'm sure that once your professor explains the math, that you will understand it. As a matter of fact, I'm about to review my basic math skills in my LPN class because my teacher is going to teach us how to calculate meds in Janurary. I see lots of people replied to your post but i just want to say that when i was in nursing school they allowed us to use calculators and taught us all the formulas we would need to solve any problem....nclex provides u with a calculator on the testing screen it may seem insurmountable right now but trust me it actually will be easy and most likely fun! I also found out while doing my clinical rotation that most nurses use calculators to ensure that dosage strengths ar in fact correct...I hope this helps

So I finally get two full weeks off, no school or HW!!! I am taking all my classes online and the way my schedule is set up I take two classes every 9 weeks so I have been in school non-stop since Feb. 07" and i am so ready for a little break!!! The way this schedule works for is that i get my AA degree in about 22 months instead of taking me probably 3 years. This is why my math class scares me because it's online but my husband says he will help me and my school has a regular campus near my Apartment and they offer tutoring in math so that makes me feel a llittle bit better. But if I need help I will definitley PM you or post it here ok, thank you so very much I really and truly appreciate all of your support and help:):):)!!! Sorry about the long post, keep me posted ok!!!

So you say that your taking 2 classes per every 9 weeks? That great! What will you get your AA degree in??? Well, I find it very sweet of your husband to support you in your math. That's also nice that you have access to tutoring. Glad to hear that you have winter break next Sunday. I have been off from school since last friday. It's nice just to sit and relax. As an Health Administrator I can work in a Hospital, doctor's office or any other medical facility-admitting in a hospital is what I want until I start nursing school. I am hoping that this will help me get aquainted with the medical field plus I am also hoping I can use my AA degree towards getting ADN degree!!! My AA degree is not what I really want to do, I was in such a rush to start school that I started a school and degree I really do not want like my husband said I should have researched better and He said that he would have help to pay for a private vocational nursing school:smackingf:banghead::banghead:!!! but now I am stuck so I figured I would finish this and he said he would still help pay for nursing but through a community college instead because we want to buy a house. I am still going to be an LVN then an RN I will start the LVN program as soon as I am accepted and once I finish the LVN program and pass the NCLEX-PN-I hope then I will go back to my CC and take their RN program. Sorry about the long post!!! I know I am doing backwards but there is nothing I can do to change it now it will just take me a little longer to start the LVN program.
