I Need help with Medical Math...

hello there. i'm not an lpn as of yet, but i will be in 2008 permitting if i pass the test. i'm not really good in math and i have disliked it all my life. as you know, nurses need a lot of math in order to do doseage calculations, ht. and wt., surface area, drug doseages for peds, monitoring iv, giving im, sq, or id injection etc...i hope math won't be my downfall as a nurse because i really love nursing! does anybody have any suggestions about an easier way to do mental math for drug calculations??? any help will be appreciated. thank you so much. :):):)

As an Health Administrator I can work in a Hospital, doctor's office or any other medical facility-admitting in a hospital is what I want until I start nursing school. I am hoping that this will help me get aquainted with the medical field plus I am also hoping I can use my AA degree towards getting ADN degree!!! My AA degree is not what I really want to do, I was in such a rush to start school that I started a school and degree I really do not want like my husband said I should have researched better and He said that he would have help to pay for a private vocational nursing school:smackingf:banghead::banghead:!!! but now I am stuck so I figured I would finish this and he said he would still help pay for nursing but through a community college instead because we want to buy a house. I am still going to be an LVN then an RN I will start the LVN program as soon as I am accepted and once I finish the LVN program and pass the NCLEX-PN-I hope then I will go back to my CC and take their RN program. Sorry about the long post!!! I know I am doing backwards but there is nothing I can do to change it now it will just take me a little longer to start the LVN program. Hello, Missy. Well, I do hope you get a job working as a health administrator. This will indeed give you a chance to experience the "nursing" life in a way. I'm sorry to hear the getting your AA degree was not thae plan; but now that you found your calling, I say go for it! I'm glad to hear that your husband is supporting you through all this. And, I'm pretty sure it's gong to get tougher when you start your nursing because you have a study, study, study all day long. I wish you the best of luck with that.:) Remember that I'm in an LPN progarm and if you need any help once you get accepted into the LVN program, I'll be glad to help you. Hopefully, we'll pass the NCLEX-PN together! The idea of attending a community college for your nursing is not a bad idea. It's cheaper on the wallet. Thanks for the heads up about studying, I really appreciate the tips and advice it will help out for sure in nursing school. I am so happy that i found my calling and I am going for it and I cannot wait to start pursuing my dream of becoming a nurse!!! Well, yes, once you get into the progarm which will be in the fall of 2008, right, then we could study together. My school hasn't given me an exact date of when we'll be taking the NCLEX-PN, but I think it'll be in December of next year. I'm soo happy for you that you finally found your passion, Nursing! hello, i too am not very good in math and have never been. i have just completed my lpn program and the instructors prepare you well for the formulas you need to know - math calculations. i used a calculator too in my pharm exam. :) keep positive!

thank you... but for the NCLEX-PN I don't think they allow you to use calculators. Do they? :):):):nurse:
