hey guys. im thinking about going to a non-accredited technical school just for my LPN license. i was wondering if this was a good idea? will i get hired as an LPN quickly after graduation? or no because i came from a non-accredited tech school? is anyone here from a tech school or a non-accredited school and had a good experience with it? any advice appreciated.

I haven't applied yet. But the 2 schools that are in my area is the Schuylkill Technology Center in Frackville Pa and a tech school in Hazelton Pa. I live in Schuylkill county and there is NOTHING here. If my husband and I didn't share a car and we had the money for gas I'd drive further if I had too for a decent school.

Also just wanted to thank you for your help :) I'm not from Pa just moved here 2yrs ago but I don't know where a lot of stuff is really.

Omg are you serious? Its near abington that can not be right Northeast is not that far from it and my gf lives up Northeast and its not that far from her. Which school did you apply to?

I'm not the OP, I just seen someone mention the school in Pa being bad and I got worried. As for the 2 schools I listed one is 15mins away the other is 30. However the one that is 15 I know it's not accredited but its approved by state. The whole accreditation is what bothers me.

NP. Ohhhhhh I know where youre at now that is far lol. Many LPNs went to nonaccredited schools in PA, passed their boards the first try and are great nurses so dont be too big on it hun. The only thing that matters here is your nursing licence because you are able to opt out of certain classes in the RN program.

I'm in Florida in an accredited lpn program and it is ghetto. My friend did the private route for her lpn and had a wonderful experience. Just paid more money than I did. Do what works for you! At the end you'll still be able to sit for the nclex!

If the BON does not approve a school, the people that go to the non-approved school can not sit for their boards. All of the time at that school is for nothing.

My attendance at LPN school in 1977 got my foot in the healthcare door and helped when I returned for BSN program in 1979.

Approved nursing schools are those that have received state specific Board of Nursing approval to provide specific level of nursing education based on Board of Nursing criteria. Nursing school must have BON approval in order to take NCLEX exam.

Approved Nursing program are eligible to apply for Accreditation if they choose after ~ 3 years existence, have graduated 1 full class who have taken NCLEX, met minimum passing rate required by BON and have submitted application.

Nursing school accreditation program has changed it's name from NLNAC to ACEN (needed to be totally independent from parent organization per today's government standards).

Accreditation is a voluntary, self-regulatory process by which non-governmental associations recognize educational institutions or programs that have been found to meet or exceed standards and criteria for educational quality. Accreditation also assists in the further improvement of the institutions or programs as related to resources invested, processes followed, and results achieved. The monitoring of certificate, diploma, and degree offerings is tied closely to state examination and licensing rules and to the oversight of preparation for work in the profession.

One can search list of ACEN Accredited Nursing Programs by state and type of program: Practical, ADN, Diploma, BSN to check accreditation status.

Collegiate programs often choose CCNE accreditation, either are acceptable.

CCNE approved programs Baccalaureate & Graduate Nursing Programs

PA has 28 accredited Practical Nursing programs, most in technical schools.

Some hospitals along with few colleges will not hire graduates/ accept students from unaccredited programs. You need to think what are your long term career goals....inquire of potential employers /nursing programs in your area what are their standards so you don't throw good money away.
