Okay all of you, how is school going? AM in sixth week and have had 9 written tests, 1 pop quiz, and checked off on BP, blood/glucose, sterile gloves, and about to be checked off on bed bath. How about the rest of you, are you all moving this fast or faster than this? Do you think it is extremely hard or pretty easy??

Hi there! I've just started my fourth week in LPN school. We've checked off on handwashing, occupied bed making, unoccupied bed making, bedbaths, applying TED hose, TPR, height and weight, positioning, peri care, mouth care, denture care, dressing residents, feeding residents, ambulation, bedpans, restraints, transfer from bed to wheelchair...this is all for the TCEP portion of our program, which is the training program for nurse aides. Toward the end of next week, we'll have our full LPN class together...including those who have already been state tested as nurse aides. I love school and am learning tons, but I'm also ready to learn more. I look forward to starting the nursing portion of our program, and also to pharmacology. I've already had a year of Anatomy and Physiology through a local university, but think I'll take it again as a refresher....I'm just ready to do more work....I just know I'll live to regret those words.

Tomorrow will be my third day of clinicals in a LTCF. Its definitely eye-opening. I actually feel like I'm doing something very worthwhile and important when I'm in clinicals....as opposed to working at a convenience store on the weekends. Its hard work, and I often feel like I'm all thumbs, but I know the experience is invaluable, and hopefully, I will soon feel more at ease.

So....things are going swimmingly and I'm having a great time! I hope you are too.

i am on my fourth week of my LPN course and we have done hand washing, body mechanics, positioning, ambulation, protective devices and lifts and transfers :)

I'm in my sixth week. It's going ok. So far we've had 4 tests total. I did good on some and not so good on others. We've had check offs on handwashing, vitals, transfers, NG tubes and we're about to be checked off on bed bath/bed making. It's a little tough but for the most part I'm enjoying it (except for a few people in my class, but that's another topic). I have test in Fundamentals tomorrow on 7 chapters so I better get my rear end off here and study.

Finally free today with just one homework......Lately, it has been crazy! really. Somehow, I was taught about "wasting-time," one happens to be going online checking out forums or just browsing, especially when I have this research due Monday. At this time, my motivation is keeping me going. I have a question, it might've been a question asked before but I would like to see it again. What motivates you?

Here's mine: Have you ever thought about rewinding time? If you had a chance in life to rewind time for school for improvement what would you do?

Now that I'm in school, I doing that time so when I look back, I'll have no regrets. (I did my best)

Wow you all are really moving along on check offs!!! We have been doing more book work than clinical stuff. Good luck to you!!

Good luck on your test. Hey I know what you mean about the few, we have some of those too, but I figure they will end up doing themselves more harm than good. I hear when we get to hospital that the instructors don't put up with anything from ANYBODY!! Grin and bear it, you'll be the lucky one!!

I'm at the end of my fifth week...we've had a procedure exam, which is where we go in to lab one at a time & there's acutal patients we don't know & we had to do a complete set of vitals, move a person from bed to chair & back to bed, a sterile field wound dressing change, and ng tube placement check & feed. Then we had to go & chart each procedure. Very nerve-wracking..we only got 2 trys to pass or had to start over next year. We had 4 tests in one week, have 2 on Monday, one the second week, a quiz in pharm every week, a research paper due next week , 10 hrs of community service, and an 8 hour project with a patient at our LTC facility!!!! This week we had cpr training & basiclife support. We have a written exam & procedure exam today to be certified before clinicals start next week. Our dosage calc class is only 10 weeks and that starts Monday...you know, I was feeling OK until I actually started typing all this....now I'm starting to freak!!!!! I've done alright lowest score was an 88, but i had a 4.0 in pre-reqs. I heard whatever grades you average in pre-reqs, the same effort gets you a grade lower in the actual program, so I guess I'm right on track!! B's are fine with me.

I know what you mean about doing your best. I wanted to do this nursing thing years ago, didn't get the chance, now that I have I keep my head in the books all the time. Made A's in pre's and am making A's in nursing so far, so I know I won't have regrets either. I just hope I don't freak out when we start doing actual clinicals in the hospital. I heard that the instructors are really tough on you when you start seeing patients. I was advised to hold my tongue and take all that they dished out, that in the end it would be worth the humiliation.

well, I am only entering my second day! WOOHOO but I am actually surprised at the slow start that we have gotten off to. I expected we would come and jump right into everything but there have been so many issues about over enrollment and our addmissions counselors gave us the wrong schedule so there were a bunch of whiners, etc etc. I am actually surprised at the level of rudeness in some of my classmates, and not to be mean, but can already pick a few out that I know won't be standing there with us when we graduate. I am actually pretty frustrated about it and went ahead and just started reading and getting as far as I can. I hope it gets better, I love my instructors, just can't wait until it all starts. Now I am sure I will be back here in a couple of weeks WHINING that I can't keep up or I am stressed out or something but all in all, I am still so excited and happy that I have finally started my journey!

I am in my third week. We are just now getting ready to get down to business. The first 3 weeks were "core" and it was really laid back and self paced. The CNA's were exempt from this portion. Today was the first day the class was together as a whole and we started nursing I. For the first three weeks I got good grades on all the tests but the last one we had to take was tough.

Im not sure what to expect so Im going with the flow for now. We are getting ready to do vitals and that kind of thing now though. Lots of reading and tests too.

What are your programs like? Mine reminds me of highschool simply because of the catiness and cliques! lol...I like the friends Ive made at school but there is already a division among the class. Why cant we all just get along like adults? instead of getting in groups and talking about each other! lol...

Anyway Id like to hear more from u guys. Im looking forward to our first clinicals in a few weeks.

Ever get the feeling they let people in the program just to watch them fail? I noticed that too. There are several girls at my school in the program that drop out of class right before the W/F is handed out but they are still in the program...(Always finding an excuse!). It is frustrating. Especially when you're waiting to get in and you see it.
