Help. Beginning to lose hope..

Nurses LPN/LVN

Published

Hello my fellow nurses!

I am a new grad LVN who has had her license for almost a year with no luck as of yet:(

I live in Los Angeles (I know! worst place to live for a new grad), but I would be willing to relocate to surrounding areas if it meant getting a job.

I know that a job isn't going to magically find me...so I do apply in person every week to all the nursing homes that I can find through the yellow pages with a crisp resume in hand. I also keep a vigilant eye on Craigslist and shoot my resume to anyone that posts looking for an LVN.

At this point I do not know what else to do? Where else to go?

I am almost ready to apply to RN school this Fall. But I truly want to put my LVN license to use and not just use it at a 18,000 dollar way into a bridge program.

Please if anyone is from LA knows of any place that is in need of a trustworthy, knowledgeable, passionate, and borderline desperate LVN any tips would help at this point.

Even if you don't live in LA but somewhere in CA and you know of somewhere that I could possibly try my luck in I would be so appreciative.

Thank you so much ahead of time!!!!

Truly any tips, ideas, or suggestions about how to improve my chances would be appreciated

I completed an LVN program in the greater Los Angeles area (Van Nuys) back in 2005, but relocated out of state to secure my first nursing job. I have been out of state ever since.

I completed an LVN program in the greater Los Angeles area (Van Nuys) back in 2005, but relocated out of state to secure my first nursing job. I have been out of state ever since.

I am completely willing to move out of California at this point, but I am quite clueless about how to go about seeking the out of state opportunities.

I am a mother to a 3 year old and I just can't up and leave California without a serious offer or some hope of landing a job very very soon.

How do I go about contacting employers out of state and explaining my situation..or should i just go to a state to visit for a week and apply to as many places as possible in person?

Like I said I am totally clueless....

Thank you again for all of your input! At this point anything will help

You will need to research the job market in a state in which you are interested and apply for the jobs. You'll be a more serious candidate if you are licensed in that state.

Places like North Dakota, Wyoming, Nebraska and certain southern states are booming with jobs. Places like New York, Florida, Nevada, Arizona, California and other popular destinations have difficult job markets.

Thanks again!

As of today I have began sending emails to job openings in the state of Oklahoma since I have a friend that lives there.

I will look into getting an Oklahoma state license as soon as possible. I will also try my luck with some of the states you mentioned since I truly have nothing left to lose and a change of scenery sounds like a wonderful thing right about now.

Thanks you have given me a fresh perspective and a renewed level of job hunting energy.:)

I loved Oklahoma! I completed an LPN-to-RN bridge (ASN) program in the Oklahoma City area about 4 years ago. Although nursing wages are relatively low there, the cost of living is low and there are jobs for LPNs. Good luck!

It has been quite some time since you posted this so I hope you've had some luck! I live in Orange County, CA and having a hard time as well. I'm doing the same thing you are as far as applying for jobs go, except I haven't stepped foot inside any facility to drop off resumes. I should! I recently went to a job fair in LA and was very discouraged as almost all employers were seeking RNs. It was still an interesting experience so I suggest you try job fairs! It doesn't hurt to hand out a few resumes and have the opportunity to speak with someone face to face! I wish you the best of luck!

Do you speak Spanish? If you can private message me I'll send you the name of address of my company that hires new grads who speak Spanish.

I don't mean to hi-jack but I would love to get the info of the agency you work for. I am also a new grad finding rather difficult with the job search. I do speak Spanish :). I don't think I have enough posts to PM you yet though.. I'm still considered a newbie on this site as well :sniff:

Just sent you an email.
