Hello all, starting LPN school in a few weeks at Lincoln Tech in CT. Anyone have any good advice or words of wisdom for the next 12 months of my life?

Congrats, and good luck! My main advice would be study, study, study! Never give up, even when you're about to "throw in the towel" with studying... you can do it...

Clean and organize everything in your home, stock up on frozen dinners and healthy snacks.

You will not have time to do anything once you start school.... it is soooo worth it though.

Try to work out a routine for cleaning, studying and sleeping early on so you wont feel so lost and tired later

Enjoy it! I have alot of fond memories of nursing school. Stay focused, because it is alot of hard work, but find balance too. I guess it just depends on what type of learner you are, but I wasn't one of those people who didn't have a life during nursing school. Most of my weeknights would be spent studying, but I always made time for friends and family, because you need that too. I was mostly an independent studier, one, because I'm pretty independent anyway, but also because when you get into large groups to study, it can just confuse you more, and people tend to get off topic. I did become close friends with one girl in school though, and we would often meet up on mornings before tests for little study sessions.

kim: can't believe it's been over 2 yrs since i started ns! i posted a few thoughts in a previous thread about what i had to do to make it thru school. i literally worked my @$$ off. check the link below.

school wasn't necessarily hard, it was getting enough time for everything that was a bee-otch.

and forget about balance (no offense wldcherry!). i found there was no such thing because being prepared for class/clinicals took precedence over everything! i gave up doing family and fun stuff, holidays, bds, etc. sometimes i even had to cut down on precious sleep time.

scheduling became a way of life - and it was tight, what with studying, commuting, class work, clinicals, a pt job, a household (thank god, no kids), food prep, shopping, etc...

but ns was a great time and i was thrilled to be learning new stuff. and now i'm a nurse! ta daaaaa...

No offense taken notmany...I think what really helped me through nursing school was that I didn't have to work, and I didn't have any kids;)
