Nurses LPN/LVN

I am graduating this Friday the 14th from the LPN program. I have been studying the Saunders NCLEX over the past few months, the thing is I have no idea where to focus on or what to even expect. I am worried because I start as a GPN on the 17th and the fear of letting everyone down has my stress just overwhelming. Please help me, give me some advice!!!!

Sincerely,

Stacy :uhoh3: :uhoh3: :uhoh3: :uhoh3: :uhoh3: :uhoh3: :uhoh3:

Stacy: I take my state board tomorrow (PN). This is what I have done to study, I saved all my index-flash cards and have been reviewing those. Also, I took the practice state board exam at my school, and my weak area was Psych, so I have been working on that. Know the nursing process and Maslow's theory to apply to nursing interventions. I hit my med-surg book bigtime. Also, I have used the Incredibly Easy NCLEX-PN book and practice CD. I hope this was enough! Believe me I will be posting my results! Good luck, don't stress, I am anxious to get it over with and RELAX! :p

Hi, I graduated on December 9th and take my NCLEX Jan 21st. I am very nervous but the few people from our class that have already taken it have all passed. My instructor said the best possible thing you can do is relax and remember you know this stuff! You made it through and confidence goes a long way. I have the Davis NCLEX review book and I do the tests and then score myself, it has all the rationals and I read them all, even the ones I am right on becuase I want to know it was because I was on the right track and not just a lucky guess. The rationals really help me, and alot of times when I have gotten something wrong, the rational makes me say " oh thats right " because with all we had to learn its easy to get things turned around sometimes. Good Luck to you. Study and Relax, when you sit in front of that computer screen to take that test, tell yourself " I know this, and I am going to pass " ( Hopefully I will remember this myself when I go for mine, HaHA!)

We are all rooting for you!

I took the Nclex-PN in November. Don't worry, if you can do well on the Saunder's Nclex study guide you will do excellent on the nclex. That is what I used, and I used it reliigously throughout the semesters to help study for tests. I passed in 85 questions and you can too! :)

These posters have all given you excellent advice.

Hats off to Kimily especially, for telling you to relax, you know this stuff! Because you are not thinking CONSTANTLY about everything you soaked in, tested on, and observed during your nursing education (like you may be thinking about stuff on the front of your brain like bills, relationships, that weird stain on your carpet... whatever), you may think you don't "know it". Well, you do.

You don't think about breathing or moving your bowels, but you do it anyway. Maybe that is a lousy analogy to a nursing education, but I really do think it is rather apt.

If you successfully graduate from a nursing program, you have already garnered a "nurse's instinct", and a lot of the relevant knowledge needed to pass the NCLEX is tucked there safely in your subconscious. It will come out during your testing no matter how unsure you are about your preparation for the exam.

I have severe, and I do mean SEVERE test anxiety, and that caused me to wait A YEAR before I took the NCLEX. Don't do that, I beg you.

I studied Delmar's book and the included CD with the 5 practice tests (the book had an additional 5 tests, plus tests at the end of every chapter), and, like Kimily, I read and tried to absorb each rationale given with the correct answer, even the answers I got right.

I passed the first time at 85 questions. Oh, and I got the last question wrong.

I was so sure that I didn't pass that I didn't open the envelope containing my results for two months.

It is so easy to say "relax", but I really do think that is a main factor.

You may not be able to thoroughly relax during the exam (you can't force yourself to relax during a test), but you can do relaxing things a few days before the NCLEX. Watch a funny movie with Ben Stiller in it. Eat soothing foods like cheesecake and chicken noodle soup. Take a long, hot, bath. Whatever gets you chilled out.

Don't be a doofus like me and stress out for a year (and yes, I did relax a few days before the test. It certainly took me long enough.)

Congrats to ya'll for making it through classes.

C'MON my nursing sisters, U CAN DO THIS!!!!

I used my books: Lippencott, Mosby's and Saunders, however, I also purchased a three week study course at http://www.learningext.com for $49 and it was so worth it. I highly recommend it. It gives you more priority type questions than you'll find in your study guide books and that is what I saw a lot of on the NCLEX.

LUV2QUILT, I was wondering how you did in your state board. I will be graduating from my LVN program in June and was hoping you had some tips. You could e-mail me if you wish.

Firstly, congrats on making it through. Secondly, breathe. I used the Saunders NCLEX PN too. Read the rationals ~ they'll help you understand why the answer is right...and why the other's are not. Remember your ABC's, Maslow's hierarchy of needs, and the nursing process. The test includes a lot of prioritizing. Another bit of advice: once you've read the question and picked your answer, READ THE QUESTION AGAIN.

The night before the test I didn't touch anything in the way of study material. I either knew it, or I didn't. On the 2.5 hour drive to the testing site I jammed all the way to Kid Rock (can't have test anxiety building with him blasting in your head). When I sat down at the computer, I took a deep breath, said a little prayer, and did my best. I passed in 80...or 85. Can't remember which. Best of luck.

Just calm down and relax, everything will come to you in time! It is a very stressful time after you've passed your boards and are suddenly thrown into the workplace, but I guarantee you that it is a rewarding experience. You will continue to learn and become a seasoned professional.

Again, relax, take a deep breath, and enjoy. You've wanted this forever!
