After taking boards...

Has anyone found it difficult to locate a good LPN position?

I work in juvenile corrections and have been away from a hospital for a couple of years.

An LPN whom we just hired and who just took her boards, said she had the hardest time finding a job.

Has anyone else had this problem?

I live in NYC and i got 3 job offers before even taking the boards ive been working for 2 months with a permit in a med/surg unit. Up here in NYC they offer great pay and bonuses. I guess its location, location, location, that makes a diffrence.

Hey Mark, How did boards go?

Yeah, me too. In fact, I remember the hospital hosted a luncheon for my whole nursing class as an incentive to work there. I had many job offers before I graduated, but then again, that was over a decade ago.

I was already working on a med/surg floor and just transitioned into a position there when I graduated.

Today, it seems as if facilities aren't into hiring LPN's. They are after the RN's. Maybe I'm just imagining it?

Hi Juvy,

Yes i found out yesterday i passed the boards and yes over here they arent really hireing too many LPN's in Hospitals but there is still a few that will and i just happen to know someone here so it was a little eaiser for me.
LTC = more pay and flex hours, but i took my instructors advise and decided to go in to Med/Surg for a year just for exp. Im going back to school this Jan for LPN to RN and would like to go to Peds. But im actually happy doing Med/surg. Hearing the horror stories about my classmates in LTC having 40 Patients and havuing little time to do anything ,where here i have about 16-20 and i feel i can spend a little more time with patients. Well let me stop rambling... Just wanted to say in NYC at least its still not hard to find a job its actually easy. And there are many agancies willing to take you, and i heard some of them are paying anywhere from $25- 27 a hour for a new grad.

Hi this happened to catch my eye Is this in NYC ? And for an LPN or RN? ...Just curious because right now I am debating whether to start the LPN program or just wait it out and start the RN. I have no idea what the NYC salaries are like.

If i had a choice i would of went straight to the RN but i was just too anxious to get to school and the RN had a waiting list. That pay is for a LPN. The lowest from all my friends that graduated last aug and ..are working now as a LPN is getting $41,000 without diff. and witout OT.

I still have to take about 3 pre-req's to get into the RN program. The director of the program told me that I would probably most definetly get in with my grades, but, I want to get this rolling and I can start the LPN program because I already have all of those pre-reqs and I passed the NLN-LPN Entrance exam. Do you regret not waiting? Thank you for responding

No, no regrets. i would of had to wait about a year to get into the RN program and the LPN takes 11 months so i said why not start. Im going back to that school in Jan and they are giving me credits for being a LPN.
and its going to take me about a year to finish so i guess it was to my advantage. The only regret i have is i didnt do this 5 years ago lol.
