Has anyone found it difficult to locate a good LPN position?
I work in juvenile corrections and have been away from a hospital for a couple of years.
An LPN whom we just hired and who just took her boards, said she had the hardest time finding a job.
Has anyone else had this problem?
:) I've been an LPN forever it seems and I've never had a problem getting a job.I was asking this because of a new grad we just hired. She couldn't find a job as an LPN for miles. I was just putting this question out there for others.
Thank you very much for bringing up this topic, because right now I am debating whether to do the LPN first or just do the RN. There are so many pro's & cons to weigh. How is the salary for your state, for new grads?

Oh wow... what a good question! :)
I work for the state in corrections, so my pay isn't that great. In fact, When I first started about 5 years ago, I took a $5.00 an hour pay cut to take my current job, but it was easier on my school schedule (going back for my RN). They have raised the base pay recently, which I do believe is better and more competitive than the closest hospitals and LTC facilities. I think the starting wage for the state is now $14.60. The cost of living here isn't that high, however, the state is not notorious for giving raises, especially to health care workers. :) Other private sector places might offer better raises and benefits.

Ok... I just wanted to add my :)
I wouldn't trade the way I'm doing this for anything. Being an LPN has made RN school much easier, plus, all the things I've learned, the areas I've worked, I wouldn't trade for one second. I'm glad I went to LPN school first. I hope it will make me a better RN.

Thats what I've been hearing. Actually my DH told me to do it that way. Still thinking about it though because LPN's in the hospital I work at, earn the same as me Not that $$ is the only thing, but my job is less stressful (secretary) so ........ don't know:uhoh21:
There are NO LPN jobs here in WV. I graduated in August, and there are 4 of us who have not found jobs. Needless to say, I'm moving to Nashville, TN in a few weeks. I hope I have much better luck there. If I was an RN, I would have no problem here, but there is not a need for LPN's.
I sincerely hope you have great luck in your move and finding a job in Nashville.
