AMEN!! I quit their program, which might have been stupid, as I was already accepted into their program, but it was horrible how they would come back at you and tell you that the class that you took and that was required last summer is no longer needed, but you do need to take these three other classes. And so on and so on. I refuse to give this university another penny. They are evil!!

No, and I apologize for using the term kites. It's the medical forms inmates use to request medical care. I'm curious how others handle medical complaints. Do they write out their complaints or do they verbalize their complaints?

Do you use these in your correctional facility? Do you like them? Do you think they're a waste of time? Let me know!!

Here in Idaho, as an LPN, I work for the state. Pay is disgustingly low here. Starting @ $13 and some change. I've been there for five years and make considerably more, but I could still make $5/hour more at a hospital.

Sorry about the job Jassyj. If you thought that some employers would give you a bad review, can you exclude them from your applications? Just wondering... Also, they give psych evals? If they did this as the facility I work at, it would have indeed eliminated the past three nurses we had to go through hell to get rid of. Wow!

In my facility, I would definitely report it to my supervisor immediately. I also report to her released inmates that I encounter on the outs... as per policy. :)

They can be the biggest whiners, criers, fakers and MANIPULATORS of anyone I've ever seen. In our facility, they go to school Monday thru Friday, 12 months out of a year. We have 4 med passes: Breakfast, lunch, dinner and bedtime. They have opportunity to talk to a nurse during these times. It never fails: It might be 1 p.m., when they have all gone back to classes that I'll get a call from one of the teachers that so-n-so has had a headache *all day*. OK... why didn't they talk to me at noon? I'll tell you why. Because they can. They get attention from the teacher and from the nurses. Usually happens at after med pass over our two way radios: Staff: Clinic--I have thirds to come see you. Clinic: Are you near a landline? (What are they coming for?) Staff: Negative. What's your location. Clinic: In the clinic. Go ahead and send them... Security, do you copy? Security: Copy. I'll follow em over. Once those kids make it to the clinic, it's usually for a hangnail or some other insignificant little injury that they've had for days and can always wait for the next med pass. Sometimes, they've told one nurse already at the previous med pass, but are hoping to talk to a different nurse because they might get a different answer. Why do they do this? Because they can. Do I call them on their manipulation? You bet.

Nurses are given about a one month nursing training before they are on their own. 2. Yeah, but it's nothing more than common sense. 3. Stay calm. Same here in Idaho. State workers hadn't had a raise in over 3 years and the Governor finally pushed through a 3% merit based raise. I'm making close to $17.00 an hour in a very rural setting and it's paying about $3-$4 an hour more than our local hospital. I'm very content here. ?

We have about 150 juveniles on a given day and we do blood draws, on average, about 4 days a week. LapCorp provided us a reference book which helps us distinguish what tubes go with what tests. Now, we just know it because we draw all the time. Unless it's a really off the wall test, we rarely reference the book. purple tops go with CBC's, red top tubes do all our drug level checks (i.e... lithium, tegretol, depakote) and the tiger top tubes (with that wax like substance at the bottom) does our CMP's and pretty much everything else. We typed up a list of our most commonly used labs and what tube they go in and taped it to the top of our blood collecting kit.

I work in corrections. At a juvenile facility. We only have LPN's here. Our only RN is our supervisor. There are five of us if we are fully staffed. :)

I changed from the BSN program to the ADN program at the local college. I have about 3 semesters left to go. :stone I wish we had a year LPN-RN ladder program here. How sweet that would be.
