help !!!very very lonely at delgado!!!!

U.S.A. Louisiana

Hello everyone

I am delgado student doing the pre-requisites for the LPN program. I took english last semester, I am currently taking summer classes( biology lab andlecture), thinking of taking maths 118 and medical nutrition next fall.

The thing is i feel lonely at Delgado, the advisor is not very helpful and sometimes i get panick attacks at night, my husband and i sacrificed so much so that i could go back to school, (we came back here after living ten years in France so we decided that the best thing would be to go back to school) taking less than 6 hours every semester because we are not louisiana residents yet, paying out of pocket for tuition, books,...

My question is If i am done with the pre-requisites by december can i go into the LPN program afterwards, i hear there is a long waiting list. ( when i asked the advisor she said she doesn't know and shouted next while i was still in her office and i was there for about 2 minutes!!!!) If i cant go to Delgado do you recommend other LPN schools in New orleans?

thanks y all

Did you talk to the advisor where you take you pre-reqs or did you talk to someone at the nursing school?

I have had the same problems at Delgado. The advising office in Covington doesn't know anything about the requirements for the nursing school. My only suggestions would be to talk to someone at charity and hound and hound until you get the information you are looking for.

Specializes in Med-Surg.

Yeah, I agree with talking to and getting your information directly from Charity. I've never talked to an advisor at Delgado. I just got all the information I needed on my own, and took the appropriate classes and tests needed to apply. By the way, have you checked out the Charity website and application deadlines?: http://www.dcc.edu/campus/charity/application-deadlines.html

Also, you might want to browse the LA Nursing Programs board here to find out about schools and programs: https://allnurses.com/la-nursing-programs/

I haven't read through them, but here are some threads concerning Charity LPN:

Hope that helps.

Whatever you do, don't get sucked into Cameron College. They advertise an LPN Program (among others) take your Pell Grant and string you along semester after semester. Instructors come and go until finally one stays and gets one group through the program, then quits. I'm hoping the place has been shut down, but last time I looked it was still standing.

Also, welcome back to the USA! I'm sorry it's lonely and I'm glad you reached out. I miss the sculpture garden in city park, the coffee shops, and the smell of white jasmine at night. :) Colorado is hot and dry, the green isn't as green in the South. The mountains are really amazing though. (Colorado)

Even though my family is here, it's still lonely, just getting used to a new place and all.

Thank you so much you guys you can't imagine how much this helps. I dropped the summer bio and lab lecture class ( my son got sick the first week and now i know now that taking these courses in the summer time was a bad idea) i am studying everyday to prepare myself for next semester. It is going to be a loooong journey but i ll make it. Thank you so much. Take care everyone all of you in LA and also Colorado :)

I talked to my advisor at the campus where i take my classes. Yesterday i was talking to a girl and she said i shouldn t have taken lab and lecture, my advisor told me not too, i should have taen her advice. And i am thinking why didn t she tell me so instead of shouting NEXT while i was still in her office, grrr people are soooo moody and rude.!!!!

I am glad that you are feeling a little better :) just keep in mind that you as a student have a right to get your questions answered! One of the most important pieces of advice I got during orientation was refuse to leave if you are still confused! Ask questions until you are blue in the face if you must!

Wishing you the best of luck!

Btw, IF you decide to take lab and lecture during the fall, I think you will find it easier. The summer classes are so rushed because of the shortened time.

Actually if I were you I would just enroll at Delta. You get straight into the Nursing portion to keep you motivated, tuition is high, but they get grants for their students above regular Pell, and most pay nothing out of pocket or get a small monthly payment plan for. It is only 15 months no pre-req's required, just a simple assessment test.

I never went there, but my friend did. She tried Delgado first and go frustrated (as I did years ago) , with not knowing what to take, and uncaring advisers that aren't knowledgeable about what they advise.

Now don't get me wrong, Delta, is supposed to be full of bull, but they will get you in and out, and you won't sit around for years just trying to start. They have a new class that starts every few months. If you got in for lets say September of this year, you would be done by October of 2011.

Nunez community college in chalmette has a good lpn program. The pre reqs needed are English 101,nutrition,intro to psych, algebra for college students, college algebra, intro to a & p OR a &p 1 And a& p 2. Pre reqs must be completed by May to enter program for Fall or pre reqs must be completed by August for spring enrollment.

I know i went there for medical assistant but had to ado phlebotomy and still dont have a job and i graduated 5 yrs ago now im attending nunez for lpn
