After applying everywhere I could think of and that I qualified for I got a glut of interviews. Let me take you back to last week. Tuesday I get a phone call for a position on Ft. Knox's Warrior Transition Unit, I was unable to get a hold of the lady until Wed but set up the interview for Friday Aug 29th. Thursday morning I get a phone call from St. Joseph's in Lexington and set an interview there for Monday afternoon, Aug 25th (had that one today btw) That same day, I get a phone call from Norton Suburban wanting to set up an interview on NICU (which is the unit I'd love to work on). That interview was set up for Friday Aug 22nd.:yeah:

Today I went to Lexington for the interveiw at St. Joe's and its the HR interview, so I don't know if I'll get a call back for an interview with a Manager. While in Lexington I got a phone call from the Nurse Recruiter from Nortons saying the manager wanted her to call me. I called back and left a message, so I should hear back tomorrow. Good thing? I hope so. After months of applying, and re-re-re-applying I may actually be getting a job on the unit I REALLY want to work on...NICU. I'm trying very hard to not get my hopes up to high, but its a good thing when the manager wants the nurse recruiter to call you back right?:) The interview for NICU went very well IMO. I presented myself well, I think and showed that I had read up some on NICU to show I REALLY was interested.

I feel like I did prior to graduation, all butterflies :D

Of course studying for the NCLEX is causing some of the flutterbies as well LOL.

I'll keep you posted on how things go.

Congrats!!!! I am so happy for you!!!!

You hung in there, stuck it out, and got what you want- I am so proud of you, Zooby!

You'll love working in critical care for Norton. They take very good care of their critical care staff. ;)

So, when do you start orientation?

CONGRATULATIONS!! I was wondering what happened with everything, but haven't been on the board with transitioning out of my job and into school. I'm so happy for you!!

I start September 15th. Corporate Orientation Downtown, then the next four at Surburban. I just wish I didn't have to go through careLink again. They have got to figure a way for a person to test out before day 2 of that class.

:dncgbby: I'm so happy, scared, but happy.

Thanks. How is the school part going? I won't be able to start the RN-BSN program now until Spring Semester, which now isn't such a bad prospect since I'm starting a new job in a critical care setting.

I did find out though, that Nortons will reimburse licensure and will pay for a Kaplan review once I start. I may take them up on the Kaplan review simply because no matter what I do, I feel like I'm losing more knowledge than I knew. I'm doing the review on learningext.com, but I'm afraid of failing the first time.

Do take them up on the Kaplan Review. You can do it online if you want, or can order the study guide & CD. It's very helpful.

There have been many changes made to Carelink since you left, I'm sure. Plus, it's a bit different for critical care charting there. Most of your units will work on protocols, so a refresher might be valuable to you. Let me know when you start your critical care classes. I think I still have my notes somewhere. ;)

I did ask about the classes needed for NICU, and the nurse educator will send a new grad to some of the ones at Kosair. I did ask if NICU takes any of the same critical care courses other critical care nurses take, some say yes, others no. I am going to try to get "The Handbook of Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing" so I can attempt to read up on what I'll be learning. Especially since I have 2 more weeks until orientation.

I wonder if I can or should call the Nurse Manager and ask if I can shadow before I actually start?

Oh, I had the interview at Ft. Knox this morning. Ended up not being able to actually interview since I didn't meet the minimum qualifications..ie: one years experience. Actually have license, not just the provisional one. I did find out that they can do our 120 hours clinical internship IF they have a 5-7-9 position open. Since most RN positions start at GS-9, the 5-7-9 lets you start as a new grad and "work" up to the GS-9. They hire you on then you work "contract" through one of the agencies they use for a year, then they bring you on as perm. Sounds ok if you really want to do it, but since I got the job I'm wanting I was saved from having to say no.

BUT, I do distinctly remember asking this very question to the person scheduling the interviews as to whether I should even bother going since I'm a new grad with NO RN experience. Apparently she didn't understand.

No harm done since I had to go to the hospital anyway. I am in search if my immunization records and they are the ones with the information on my "retired" health records.

If your shots aren't up-to-date, you can get them done for free at the Employee Health office. If your PPD is expired, or if you can't find it, you can get that done at one of the Norton Immediate Care Centers, when you get your urine drug screen done. That won't cost you anything, either.

One thing you can also do while you're waiting is to update your BLS (if needed), and sign up for ACLS. These are also done at no cost for you.

You'll get plenty of precepted hours in- don't worry about that.

While I was at Ft. Knox I went to outpatient records to get information on retrieving my information. I got a number in Missouri, which is where my stuff has been retired too. Of course you can't get ahold of an actual person to talk to, that would be convient wouldn't it? My mom can't find my immunization records. I'll wait for my PPD until I actually start since its a long drive to an Immediate Care Center, yeah its expired LOL.

I don't know yet if I need to take ACLS, I know I have to take NRP though.
