I'm a newbie RN and just found out that my employer pays for my license. Is it all over Canada? or just here in SK :)

Only Saskatchewan has that lovely perk. In Alberta we get $100 (20%) from our employer, but only after we've worked 600 hours in the current registration year. Everywhere else in the country there is no reimbursement of any amount.

Really Jan? I had no idea. That's nice to know.
I'm not sure if that applies to AUPE or HSAA. UNA has already received their reimbursement.

Am I the only one who thinks its unfair that some provinces are wayyy cheaper for their annual registrations? Last time I looked it was only like 120 a year for Ontario nurses and I am paying almost 450 plus tax for mine....not fair!
ON is cheaper because their membership doesn't include RNAO fees. ON also has more nurses. I currently hold licenses in two Provinces, so it's expensive. I don't think it's unfair. I make a decent wage, and consider it the cost of doing business. There's nothing we can do about it.

AUPE usually gets their $100 in January. The LPNs have to have registration paid for by December 1st.
Guess what I still have to do??
CARNA gets my money at 2359h on September 1.
Our registration fees are so high in Alberta because CARNA tends to launch investigations into absolutely EVERY complaint, no matter how petty or frivolous. (Example: "Member #xxxxx failed to document administration of patient's daily multivitamin on November 16, 2011. During investigation member could not remember if medication was given or not. Conditions placed on registration include successful completion of courses in medication administration and documentation by a deadline.") Tribunals (yes, that's what they call the process) take months and the actual tribunal hearing will be stretched out for hours to days so that the panel members can have lunch at a nice, exclusive restaurant paid for by the members. The lawyer they retain for these tribunals bill by the hour. And the continuing competence program consumes another HUGE chunk of ca$h. The audits are human-resource heavy. Their offices are rather plush, with granite and marble, lots of art, carpeting everywhere and gigantic windows. So we pay $504 a year right now... first year in the history of the College where there was no increase.
Feel your pain. Since Stanger was hired by CLPNA it seems she's doing everything possible to turn it into CARNA lite.
Funny how the poster known as "CLPNA" never posts when we are cranky.
