US License Requirements

by smuggy

Please be advised that effective July 1, 2009, the Vermont Board of Nursing requires CGFNS-CES certification prior to taking the NCLEX-RN. Please beware also that the State of California requires a Social Security Number (not our local SSS) prior to issuance a license after passing the NCLEX.

Moved to the International forum and title changed to US license requirements as you are applying for a license not NCLEX that is just a part of the process.

I checked their website. Is the CES an absolute requirement, even if I plan to apply for a VisaScreen? I don't mind going through the process but getting a CES is expensive! Aside from the cost of taking the NCLEX, IELTS, and VisaScreen.

I was targeting Vermont for initial licensure. For my fellow foreign nurses out there, what states are you planning to apply for initial licensure?

If the state requires CES or other form of training evaluation then you have to meet that requirement. VSC comes after you have sat and passed NCLEX and if you go the CES route then ICHP can use the same documents they have received for CES for VSC.

Vermont has just changed their requirements from the 1st July and CES or other form of eval is required. I personally would use CGFNS because your docs can be used for VSC but also if you want to continue your education in the US most places request CES

Thanks Silverdragon102

Been researching and seems that it's best to get CES in the long run.

I plan to work in CA eventually. Would you advise I apply to Vermont for initial licensure then endorse to CA?

Up to you which state you apply to for initial licensure, we just do not recommend Ca at the moment with retrogression otherwise I would say apply to the state you are going to be working in.

It just means that all your documents have arrived, next will be reviewed and a report will be issued. If you haven't already sent your application to the BON would suggest you do so now as usually report doesn't take long to issue once everything is received
