  1. Exactly!!! When I was in the 1st year of my nursing school, my dad underwent his second operation for colon cancer. Since it was an "open & close" case, we were left w/ no hope of seeing him out of the ICU. The last 3 weeks of his life was a misery, he was not ready to go, and he was a strong, higly opinionated man. For 3 weeks, he was conscious, alert, but the only thing he can move were his eyes and arms. I can't imagine how frustrated he was On the 16th of July, the doctor informed me that he had shown signs of impending death, and asked me to consider DNR. I was second from the youngest, and my entire family relied on me to write the DNR (not sign, but write what I don't want the health team to do). Here in the Philippines, DPA, living will, and advanced directives are seen in TVs only. After he assured me that he was good to go, I made a DNR while he was having an arrest...

I have to disagree with you on this. Things are a lot easier now for foreign applicants because there are only 14 states that now requires CGFNS Certification Program. And I can't find anything difficult in any of the step in the application process, except of course if one is dumb enough not to understand very simple instructions. What if the applicant wants to work and live in Louisiana? The board there does not allow foreign nurse to apply for licensure by examination. And of course, there will always be the issue of SSN prior to license issuance. I met a number of nurses who got their licenses from the state where they intended to work, and saw themselves having to do endorsement because their licenses cannot be endorsed w/o an SSN. Why bother to have a license? Telephonic nursing have reached the Philippines. Call centers specializing in healthcare outsourcing are now hiring local nurses w/ a valid & active US license for UR nursing and Case Management. The salary may not be as high in the US, but at least, unemployed Filipino NCLEX passers can now make use of their hard-earned, and expensive US licenses, receiving pay that is 4x as much as what they get from hospitals. I have seen you defend your NCLEX application center to the bone... But in my opinion, they have not done their job so far. Why? I asked a couple of these application centers in Manila, regarding the state with the least number of requirements at reasonable cost. Up until now, their answer remain California. Maybe they could do a little research and might find one state very interesting.
  3. There are cheap hotels around the testing site, but im referring to the quality, not the fare But there are a lot of pensionne houses in Vito Cruz extension and Kamagong, which are the nearest residential/commercial area from Trident Towers. I think price starts at PhP 1,500. Goodluck!
  4. NCLEX, just like any national licensure exam in any country, evaluates your skill, knowledge, and attitude. Review materials are there to help you refresh your knowledge. Read and understand your Saunders review book (it's a good one), go back to your textbooks if you're having difficulty with some of the topics. Answer practice tests, and then answer case discussion (Prioritization, Delegation, and Assessment) as if you are actually there in the scenario. How will you know that you are ready to become a nurse? If... 1. You know how to assess the client 2. Come up w/ nursing diagnosis based on your assessment, and know how to prioritize them 3. Come up with a plan that is SMART 4. Know the skills and rationale in implementing your plans Good luck!

again, nclex application centers are for nurses who are too lazy to "deal w/ the hassle". if they can't deal w/ the hassles of processign their licensure, then they ought not to get one. if they made too mistakes filling up an application form, then they shouldn't filling up patient forms. if they got confused following instructions, then they should be doing health teachings, and definitely no right to give instructions. and, if they are too poor to do basic math, then they shouldn't be computing drugs. i'm sorry hushdawg, but i believe you stayed too long in the philippines to think like a local politician, i.e. quantity over quality just a thought, what makes you think filing an income tax is really difficult? it's just addition, subtraction, and multiplication. the people i know who needed 3rd party for this are those who wanted to cut corners and those who wanted to hide their real income
  6. Eligibility - this is issued by the board of nursing to inform you, the candidate, that you've met the requirements of the state. Some BON will just email you that you can now register with Pearsonvue. Pearsonvue Registration - You may do this online. Regsiter at Pearsonvue (www.pearsonvue.com\nclex), this is a private company that administers the NCLEX. You will have to pay $200 for this (credit card) ATT - once you have registered & paid, Pearsonvue office will contact the board to verify your eligibility. Once the board confirmed that, PearsonVue will issue you an ATT (Authority to Test). This can be released in as fast as 24 hours. In this process, there are 3 activities that will have different expiration periods: Eligibility - can be from as short as 90 days to 2 years, depending on the state Pearsonvue Regsitration - valid for 1 year ATT - can be from as short as 90 days, depending on the state

"Applying to a state "just to get in" is a very bad idea." -- I have to admit it is wrong, but not a bad idea. Thousands of Filipino nurses who are now in the US applied did this , except for those who were sponsored by the recruiting hospital, or agency. My own recruitment agency filed my application in New Mexico though they intended to send me to New Jersey.
  8. It is located in Paseo Center in Makati. As I said, review your clinical skills & knowledge cause there will be a clinical assessment. Good luck to all!

hahaha! i am beginning to think you are one of them but that's okay. i wish they will advise the nurses to try states other than california.

The instructions for NCLEX application are fairly simple as well as with CGFNS CES, CP, and VisaScreen. Any college graduate, should be able to follow those. Yes, they may be able to save a few hundred for the bulk courier, but there are no "bulk" bankdraft processing. Bankdrafts are made and paid individually at $5-8 each depending on the bank.
  11. Yes it is a new field, and the possibilities (and repercussions) are challenging. The Philippine company is URAC accredited, and it is during the accreditation process that I began to ask questions about the future of this field. I hope someone can enlighten me so that potential issues can be addressed as early as now. PS: I checked the link that you gave me. I found some interesting topics. Thank you :)

i am sorry to disagree with you. these nclex processing centers are for nurses who are lazy enough to ask question first before actually doing something about it. there are banks such as pnb and ucpb that will allow you to buy bankdrafts for $5-8 per bankdraft. we have thousands of nurses from decades ago who have experienced difficulty in paying the board, cgfns, or pearsonvue. they were able to pass the cgfns and nclex w/o the help of this processing centers. and they are all in the us now. the funny thing with these processing centers is that the nurse will still be the one to go and fall in line in their school for education verification, to the local licensure agency for license verification, and the local police agency for fingerprinting. they will just prepare the bankdarft, receive the nurse's documents, and send it to the appropriate board. oh, by the way, it is also the nurse who will pay for everything else. all i'm saying is, let's encourage our colleagues to be independent. it's not as hard as they think it is.

ps: just make sure that you have completed the 30 continuing education units required before submitting your renewal form.

The bankdraft should be made payable to BRN. The board has two addresses, one PO Box, and a physical address that you will use. Check out their website for there are details that you will need to enter in filling up a courier form.
  15. i wonder if ncsbn has any regulation about this? maybe it is time to discuss about the future of telephonic nursing. 'cause as far as i know, this type of nursing practice has reached the philippines.
