Police checks and Temp work permits

Hi guys,

I was wondering when (once i finally find a job) i am applying for a temporary work permit at port of entry will i need a police check ??

I live in scotland and have been told that it will not be needed, only for a permanent residency but is this true ??

Thanks allot :-)

We know where the specific CIC credited doctor is (actually only 10 mins from our house) but we want to know if you can simple get them to complete the medical and take that to the port of entry instead of them sending it down to London just to get sent back to us (as we are not planning to submit anything to the London office)??

Not 100%. This maybe better asked to your immigration lawyer

You will absolutely need a police check if you are going as a nurse - it's one of the things you have to tick on the checklist before you send in your paperwork. I think your Scottish one may suffice but you need to check that out with the embassy.

You have to apply before you leave, if you're going as a nurse, it's NOT one of the jobs that you can get the work permit at port of entry. You HAVE to have a medical as well. Here is the link as proof that you can't apply at port of entry: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/work/apply-who-eligible.asp#enter

Check out the Canadian Embassy's website: http://www.canada.org.uk/ - this is the london office. All details are on here. As well as that you have to fulfil all the requirements for the College of Nursing in the Province where you intend to work as well. IN particular - pertaining to some of your other questions look here: http://www.canada.org.uk/visa-info/worker/e_medprof.htm

There are NO quick ways to get to other countries as a nurse - you have to do things correctly or you will not be able to work. All in all it takes 9-12 months to get everything together for the TWP & College of Nursing. There is no legal way to avoid this, please don't try.

The medical has to be on the form sent by the embassy - you can't have it done first. If you are planning to work as a nurse in Canada you have to apply in this country first. You will need a labour market opinion and a job offer - both of which are on the checklist I mentioned above.

Sorry to disappoint you but that's why you need to research things first - it's all on the links I posted above.

As far as i am aware Applying through London is simply to get the thumbs up that you have all of the info ready for applying at the airport.

However i am bypassing the London office as we have an immigration lawyer so all of our forms should be correct.

What i want to know is:

1. can we simply get the medical from the doctor and present it at the port of entry ??

2. Will this cut down on the time scale as we are not waiting for London to say "yeah its all present and correct" ??

cheers :D

No, that's not correct. An immigration lawyer can't "bypass" London. In fact it clearly states on the website that you don't need to employ the services of an immigration lawyer because all the forms are on the site. They say it's up to you but it won't get you preferential treatment & will cost you money.

Also, you don't say yet whether you have fulfilled the requirements of the College of Nursing - that is your most important step that takes about 6 months in itself. I know you said you have a degree & a job offer but you still need to apply to the College be made elligible to nurse.

Thanks RGN1,

Yes i have been aproved by the CNO.

I am aware of the procedure now, the problem is that we were told alot of mis-information, this forum and the CIC website has finally brought evrything together.

So we need to:

1. Get the lmo (in process)

2. Submit the lmo with job offer and whole bunch of stuff to London (CIC)

3. Get medical forms from London and then get medical

4. Send medical info down to london and wait

*********** 4-12 weeks later **************

5. receive pre-aproval TWP from london and finally get to Canada

That's it in a nutshell. I know it was a bit of a shock to you but it would have been worse to turn up in Canada only to be sent home again!!

You can download the forms from the web site and fill them in but you have to print them straight away - you can't save them with the info on them. However, you will have to write the telephone numbers in by hand - they don't recognise UK numbers - weird for a form for outside Canada but there you go!

It takes about 4 weeks for them to send the medical form to you & then they warn it can take another 3 months after that. I'm hoping not but I know someone on here whose a few weeks ahead of me so I'll let you know on that! Or they might spot this & pitch in! I'm just a few weeks ahead of you in turn! Although I'm off to Alberta not Ontario.

While waiting you can always check out schools/houses etc etc - I'm sure you've plenty of things to organise! You should also check out the police form thing, if the Scottish form is the equivalent of the ACPO one then you'll be fine, if not let me know & I'll give you the details of ACPO - it can be done in a couple of days if you're desperate (for a higher fee of course!)

We're all here to help, you can PM me if needs be or post any other questions you have on this thread.

Hi,

At the moment the immigration medical web page is down

http://www.canada.org.uk/visa-info/general/Medical.htm

Typical !!!

So i remember reading that a TWP with medical will take 4-12 so does that mean that the application is being processed while i am getting the medical (as London will already have the forms)

OR

Do the papers just sit collecting dust untill all the details are present ??

Also is it possible to send most of the papers to london and then send additional informatin later (we are trying to get some qualification forms printed officialy) ??

Thanks again :redpinkhe

Nothing gets processed until they have received everything, and that means the medical evaluation being reviewed by them as well.
