Nursing in Afghanistan, Iraq etc

A P.A. friend of mine was talking to a nurse that he works with at the E.D. that said he took a 9 month nursing contract in Afghanistan that paid 180k tax free. Anyone know where these jobs can be found online? Is this working for the govt. or private industries? I need to ask my friend to ask his friend, but haven't seen him in a while :) Thanks

Hey,

I'd enjoy hearing any information about this too.... got to pay off some loans!

Would anyone with any information about these types of contracts please respond....

Thanks!

Please be aware that you must be out of the country working for the full calender year for the money paid to be tax free. There are no nine month contracts that are tax free at least that we have heard about.

This type of story is always surfacing, and we have not seen any of them being 100% correct.

I would suggest going to your local recruiting office. If they don't know the answers they will at least be able to point you in the right direction

Sounds like an urban myth, but who knows with private military contractors the US government utilizes.

I sure as hell know the medics and RN serving with military don't make that kind of cash.

yes, the contract was for a full year, but he only worked about 330 days total he said.

And if not worked from Jan 1 to the end of the year, then it is not tax free per the US government either.

And he did not do a 9 month contract, just as expected. It was for a full year with the month of vacation or time off that they get.

Still do not believe that the pay was that high. There is always more to a story than one usually hears.

Unless you have seen an actual pay stub, then would not beleive it.

This isnt a myth or urban legend. I have a friend who is in the airforce reserves and he just came back from afghanistan. He said they need workers bad not only in the airforce but civilians workers as well.

Well you may not be able to bring home 180k tax free money, but the first 75k is tax free and the rest is indeed taxed. Also, there are jobs, nursing, etc that will pay up to 180k. I don't know the website but I will check with him re same.

What you are stating is correct. There are contracts for there, but they are not at $180,000 and tax free for 9 months. The US has specific requirements for any of it to be tax free, and one major key is that the person is out of the US for one full year and a calender year.

My issue is that it was posted that someone went there and worked for only 9 months and got $180,000 tax free. That proved not to be the case at all. And that part of it is what I was concerned about.

And only up to $75,000 can be tax free.

But someone willing to work a fair amount of overtime can also come close to that in the US, right in the Bay Area.

Thanks for joining the discussion!

Any additional information would be appreciated. Like I mentioned, the student loans are large and I'm looking for the quickest way to pay them off.

Thanks!

try kbrjobs.com. They pay $110K/year. The first 85K is tax free. You must be out of the U.S. for a year for it to be tax free. They are a bit hard to get. You have to be referred by a kbr employee to have an easier time getting in. This came from the horses mouth while I was deployed as active duty to Iraq. I spoke to one of the KBR guys that does hiring and this is what I was told.

Good luck!
