New grad Filipino nurse wanting to work in Australia/New Zealand Part 2

World Registration

Published

Due to recent changes regarding applications for International nurses to Australia and the combining of the nursing boards to one central nursing board in Australia AHPRA I have started a new thread for people to discuss the new process on working in Australia.

Currently New Zealand is not accepting new applicants from International trained nurses except those that meet the Trans Tasman Mutual Recognition Agreement {TTMR} this will be updated once the New Zealand nursing board reopen their books to International nurses.

I'm glad I stumbled onto this page. My head is spinning from reading aphra and anmc websites since they don't give clear information about how to proceed. I'll be backreading these posts to see if there is something that will help. So thanks :) I have a question though... is a bridging program the only way to gain registration in Aus? I'm only asking because there was a CAS program a year ago... actually, I wasn't able to continue with this program because of the deadline (national registration). All that money spent for nothing. This time around, I just want to make sure I'm doing the right thing.

yes, BP.. no shortcuts unlike before..

hi everyone, first of all i want to thank each one of you for unselfishly giving your time and effort to answer questions. i have been reading your posts and i find this site very helpful. I just arrived in australia last december 24,2010. i want to seek advice on what to do to be able to be registered as a nurse here. From what i understand,i should still go through APHRA to have my credentials evaluated. I read from the previous posts that since some things have changed since july 2010, there is a possibility that the BP will take up to 2 years? Are there other options that i can possibly do? thanks so much.

what 2 years BP do you mean? BP is just 3 to 6 months, depending on the school you enrolled... that 2 years being discussed refers to the validity of your eligibility letter from AHPRA.. cheers!

Hello guys, can i ask help from all of you??? I'm an Nclex-rn passer particularly Vermont State. Do I need to mention this in the AGOS Form in the qualifications and examinations part and what further documents do I need to provide in support to this.

Thank you very much and Godbless =)

shynern answered your question, but take note that California NCLEX passers have different situation as compared to Vermont License holder like you.. if you want a clean application (which you could sleep at night) then declare your Vermont license (but you will spend for the verification fee).. California NCLEX passers have good reasons not to declare it because they it will just be complicated for them and they do have good reasons if they will be asked to explained.. i am a vermont license holder, i declared it..

you have to go to vermont website and print the request for verification of license, fill up, and pay the fees (demand draft).. instructions are there... this document will be required by ahpra (if you declare vermont license as ive explained above)..

Impatience is really creeping up with regard to the eligibility letters. I heard from someone I knew who finished her BP last December 2010 and until now she still doesn't have her registration from AHPRA.

december was the renewal/processing month of Victorian RNs... very busy for them..

Wow! welcome back cioman94! Just want to ask how was your stay there? Were are you in Australia? How was the job, living expenses, etc. Mind sharing the work and living experience there? Thanks a lot! :D

been good here esp. if you have filipino neighbors/workmates who are supportive (not that crab mentality)..

food is cheap in relation to your salary... rent is one of the biggest expenses you will have, so the less rent you save then the more money you save.. coke and beer are expensive, fruit juices are cheap (unlike in phils. its expensive) so i just buy fruit juices instead of colas.. clothes are expensive!!!! i requested my parents to send package my clothes from the phils. to here (instead of me buying here, costly!!).. cellphones and gadgets are cheap... barber and massage are expensive too...,

whoooaaaa!!! thanks a lot for your replies, esp. to cioman94... i'm having second thoughts yet whether to declare that i'm an NCLEX-RN passer or not, "sighs".. i'm considering the time frame because its due for renewal this coming march, and if I'll still request for verification, it might take ages for it to arrive and by that time, it has already expired... well anyways just hope and pray for God's guidance to show me the right and best thing to do.

I'm planning to submit the AGOS form nextweek to catch up for the long wait, sana :nurse:

kokology, ive replied already to your message, and offered you a probable solution to your problem.. best wishes!

you;ll be fine..

hi! i've been lurking in this thread for almost a month now. Kudos to all the contributors! You're all heaven sent!

This is my case, I've been a reg nurse here since 1999, worked at the hospital for 3 years as a Staff nurse and last 2003 I was given an opportunity to be a Clinical Instructor.

my question is, Am I eligible to take the BP and eventually apply for an Austalian license? I've read somewhere in AHPRA website that applicants must have at least 5 years of experience preceding their application. Technically, I only worked as a staff nurse for 3 years and as a CI for 7 years now.. TIA!

Regards to everyone!

Hello there! I've changed my mind, thanks cioman94. I'm now convinced that I really have to declare my vermont license though it would take time, it's safer and better to do it the legal way. I've downloaded the form for verification of license, its just that I'm having concerns re how to pay the fee, honestly I don't have a credit card, just a debit card and I don't think they'll accept it... anyone please??? thanks so much.:nurse:

i paid them with my debit card

@aking_skype, oh really, you did that??? may i know if which bank??? thanks so much =)
