IV therapy and basic CPR

i just passed the june 2006 NLE and i want to ask a few questions.

can anybody help me find any institution that offers these training besides philippine heart center (for IV) and red cross (for CPR) coz my main problem with the said institutions is that PHC offers IV training on October ( I still have to check Red Cross on when they schedule CPR training)...

i have an offer from a hospital which would start next week and i'm thinking if i should take it coz i'm still applying for NCLEX (just waiting for my license and i doubt if i would have enough time to do so when i already have a job)

and i want to know if it wise to have the trainings first before applying for a job? coz if i choose having the trainings first, i can be stuck at home doing nothing coz of the schedules of the training...

thanks in advance...

Good AM! It's actually 5:25am here in Texas. Kumusta na po kayo? If I were in your shoes I would concentrate on reviewing for the NCLEX exam as well as take workshops, seminars, trainings, etc, that you come accross during your NCLEX review. Go to a reputable NCLEX review center. You should strike it while your basic nursing knowledge is still fresh and unobscured by real life nursing.

What you learn in the Philippines will not gaurantee success here in the US. I made the mistake of taking the NCLEX years after I passed the CGFNS and the Local Boards. I graduated 1993, passed the CGFNS in 1994 and decided to join a show band being the keyboardist and back up singer. I was making so much going abroad that I ignored my nursing career. When my music career was on the rocks I turned back to nursing... 7 years later!!

I took the NCLEX not once, not twice but 3 times!!! After my 2nd try, I decided to go back to the Philippines and attend a NCLEX review class which lasted 1 month. On my return back to the US I finally passed the exam. Oh, BTW, My plane fair was tax deductible since my trip to the Phils. was "nursing related" or as I put it.

A good NCLEX reviewer that I would recommend is the Kaplan 2007 reviewer. Here's a link:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1419582445/sr=1-7/qid=1155292768/ref=sr_1_7/002-7276085-9521650?ie=UTF8&s=books

It's quite pricey but believe me, it's worth it. It's not like your usual NCLEX reviewer that prepares you knowledge wise, the Kaplan reviewer prepares you to actually prepare for the NCLEX exam itself! It refines your analytical skills, priorities, and how to dissect tough questions using different techniques. Being a new graduate, your basic nursing knowledge is very intact. You need to train yourself to learn how to answer NCLEX type questions. They are totally different than the objective type questions we're accustomed to as nursing students.

Anyway, good luck!! Finish and pass the NCLEX exam and you can do whatever you want with your life!

Oh and 1 more thing I may add. Attend as many training seminars you can, especially advance courses like EKG, ACLS, etc. You can never learn enough from 1 course and every course you take you'll always learn something new. I've already taken 4 EKG courses and I'm still learning something new everytime. The more training skills you have under your belt, the better you negotiating market value becomes.

KAPLAN is used by one of our CI to teach us something bout musculoskeletal and psychiatry and its a good book.. really concise and specific!!!

Is there any institution in the Philippines that offer ACLS other than the Red Cross..

take it when you are already in the US...so that you're sure that it is accredited by American Heart Association

delos santos is accepting iv therapy training, but I think you can not get you iv therapy card with out your license bec. it is one of the requirements to be submitted at the ANSAP office

hello... i'm batch 2005 from FEU and i'm here now in NY, i just passed Nclex last week...

if you're looking for a training in IV.. National Kidney and Transplant Institute is good. They're Comprehensive and "new-grad friendly" hehe :) the fee is P2,500 (last year) and it's a nice and modern hospital unlike other hospitals in QC.. ooops! :)

by the way if you'll be working here in the US, i think the IV training and BLS is not qualified here (I'm quite unsure abt this though).. you have to take it here in the US.. that's the reason why i didn't train for BLS na coz i don't want to shed money before hehe

if you have 'certificate of passing' (from PRC), hosp here wld accept that if you're just after their training... fyi.

De los Santos Hospital will conduct IV training on Oct. 4,5,6 at 8am to 5pm.

Hi guys, if know of any more upcoming IV therapy & BLS seminars please post it here, thanks!
