So, I just took the exam today...it was tough. I did very well in class, but I'm just not sure how I did on this one. So many ambiguous questions.

The next six weeks waiting for results is going to be a killer!

Thoughts?

Best of luck. I took it one year ago, the wait was nerve wracking. Two friends called me and said they got their pass notices and mine was in the mail the same day.I really felt i had passed but it was hard to open the letter anyways.

I also had the exam this passed Wednesday. It wasn't easy, but I feel confident that I passed. The exam preparation classes I had were very helpful. The questions were very tricky; most of them had 2 right answers! I don't get the point of going through this stressful process. The 2 years we spent in College studying, taking several quizzes and exams should be enough to train someone to be a nurse!!!!

Yes, I also took the exam on Sept 10/08. The first book was a walk through. The second book had me thinking, there was really no need to study at all. Nothing was related to what I had been taught in class.

Does anyone know how they grade the CPNRE? What criteria do they use is it percentage? Average or what? Why do they give trial questions and allocate the same number of time to complete the exam? I wonder if they could consider having the exam in two days and the results by 2 wks. Come-on guys this is all computerised, why does it take so long. It makes me wonder to know that they say they are short on nurses and here we are waiting for months to be licenced its just annoying

When I wrote it, I found that the class material was very relevant to the exam as was the clinical area.

In Ontario, they don't reveal what score you need to pass but, if you don't pass they will tell you which areas you need to work on. You have 3 tries to pass the exam. They always seem to be trialing questions esp. in Ontario where the RPN program is now a diploma program.

I had my results back in less than a month so you may get even luckier. I do understand your frustration with the time it takes for obtaining your actual licence. Some employers will allow you to work with a temp licence and some will not. Best of luck to you.

This link will take you to the website of the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of British Columbia where there is a lot of very clear information about the CPNRE. http://www.clpnbc.org/index.php?dbq=10 The Colleges of Nursing in Canada take their responsibility to the citizens they serve very seriously. The processes they use are the same across the country with few minor exceptions.

Short answers: The results are Pass/Fail. Trial questions are used to determine their suitability for future exams, since the exams are changed each time. You would have to ask someone from one of the colleges why they can't get the results out sooner, and I'm sure they would have an answer for you. I suspect it may have something to do with not wanting computers to be solely responsible for making life and death choices. The examination is not done on a computer as the NCLEX is, it's done with a pencil on a bubble sheet, which is then scored by computer. But I can't see that changing any time soon. Perhaps they visually review those exams that have borderline failing scores to see if there have been erasures that confused the computer... I don't really know.

I also wrote this past wednesday. I prepared using the cpnre prep guide, the cd's for mosby's and saunders as well as the the majority of the Lippincott nclex-pn review which was helpful. There were some tough questions- many critical thinking and I also found I had narrowed it down to two possible correct answers for quite a few questions! I know I did better on Book 2....I wasn't expecting so many med/surg questions though!! lol..Overall I think I did ok and I am sure I passed but I just need to see it in writing!! Best of luck to you all!!! :wink2:

I also wrote the exam on September 10, 2008.

I agree with your analysis thought the questions would be more detailed orientated compared to the inadequate information provided to base one's answers.
