Hi I'm new to this site although I have been following it for quite some time now. Always interested in UK nurses wanting to pursue careers in the US and following their experiences. This has been our dream since summer 2003 and now we're currently waiting for packet 4 to arrive. House has just gone up for sale, which is making me feel it's for real now! Feeling a bit nervy at this point, are we doing the right thing? but deep down it's what we've wanted for so long. Hoping to be in Connecticut late summer. ;)

Just me and hubby.....hey, I see you're from Lancashire. My niece works at Royal Preston Hospital, she's going to the US also, she just got her I-140 approval.

How do I feel? .....excited, nervous, a bit sad about leaving certain people. But I'm sure I'll cope :D

I'm going with my husband, 17yr old son and daughter who is 20, but she will be returning later to finish her degree, she has one more year to do.

Yes, but with green card in hand, hopefully won't be too difficult as he's pretty much prepared to have a go at anything :p

Where do you work here whilst waiting for immigration? And what attracted you to Connecticut? Are you with an agency or going it alone?

Hate to p*** on your chips, it is easy to get a job out here but the wages they pay are poor. When we first came over my husband got a job with Blockbusters $6.50 per hour!!!! My friends husband is working for Home Depot $11 per hour and he is a skilled tradesmen. My other firends husband has never had a job in 2 years because the wages are so poor.

Hate to p*** on your chips, it is easy to get a job out here but the wages they pay are poor. When we first came over my husband got a job with Blockbusters $6.50 per hour!!!! My friends husband is working for Home Depot $11 per hour and he is a skilled tradesmen. My other firends husband has never had a job in 2 years because the wages are so poor.

blimey kay the bad luck just goes on poor you! i think anthem must have a hex on it :D

my husband has a job offer from a large multi national company based in AZ, on a new contract in Casa Grande

wages are $22 an hour, which i didnt think was bad for a starting salary, they will train him 'the american way' then after that he should get a pay rise.

if you look on the internet there are plenty of jobs about monster and salary.com are good places to start, my husaband emailed his resume to the recruiter on his company, and within 2 hours they were on the telephone interviewing him.

the problem with being a tradesman in the uk is that the usa dont always recognise our qualifications which can make things more complicated.

just stick at it- he will find something probably before he leaves if they know he is coming on a green card especially as you have so many friends on the Fl forum!

They did us a favour Dh works for himself now and loves it and earns a very good amount of money, and as we are managing on one car it is a good job he isnt working far from home lol. PM the name of the company so I can pass it on because believe me there are a few hubby's over here just wont work for the poor wages. I think it is fantastic news for your DH, one less thing to worry about.:pumpiron:

Hey your hubby is only $2 an hour less than you will be on, so that is great money
