Hi I'm new to this site although I have been following it for quite some time now. Always interested in UK nurses wanting to pursue careers in the US and following their experiences. This has been our dream since summer 2003 and now we're currently waiting for packet 4 to arrive. House has just gone up for sale, which is making me feel it's for real now! Feeling a bit nervy at this point, are we doing the right thing? but deep down it's what we've wanted for so long. Hoping to be in Connecticut late summer. ;)

Working in a hospice. Originally wanted to go to florida but I was offered an interview for CT and decided to go for it, not with OGP by the way. My hubby is prepared to do anything also, but I'm feeling a bit nervous at the minute and wondering if we're doing the right thing - but wanted it for so long. I suppose that's natural.

They did us a favour Dh works for himself now and loves it and earns a very good amount of money, and as we are managing on one car it is a good job he isnt working far from home lol. PM the name of the company so I can pass it on because believe me there are a few hubby's over here just wont work for the poor wages. I think it is fantastic news for your DH, one less thing to worry about.:pumpiron:

Hey your hubby is only $2 an hour less than you will be on, so that is great money

especially as its just a starting salary hes very pleased, it will give the opportunity to experiance how they run things that side of the atlantic, then hopefully he should be able to go independant in a year or two.

if your friends go onto salary.com or do a google search they should be able to find plenty on there, as i said before monster is also very good

:D

Yes, that's natural. It's such a life-changing decision, we're all of us bound to feel anxious. Me personally, I started to get really panicky once I'd had the embassy interview and saw that US Visa in my passport. Up until then, I'd been so focussed on the lengthy process (all the CGFNS stuff, NCLEX etc) that I hadn't really looked past the interview. Then suddenly, it's there, and you're thinking "OMG I can actually go now" Then when it comes time to hand in your notice at work here, it brings it home to you what you're actually doing. It's natural to wonder if you're doing the right thing, especially if you have young children as well. But after a few months in the US, we'll all probably be kicking ourselves that we didn't do it sooner :chuckle

Too true - you wait so long to get here....even after I had been here 3 months I was still driving to work thinking OMG I am actually working here and living the life!!! LOL

It has it's ups and downs and aas long as you are prepared for it you should be ok...

Oh one last thing the first couple of weeks when you get your cars and house sorted you will need lots of money becuase it goes through your pocket like a dose of salt!!!!:chuckle

Hi!

Welcome to all of you coming to the USA to work! Anyone coming to Ohio?

This may be a really bad question; but, what is the reason for leaving the UK to come to USA to work? Maybe I'm just a romantic( a leftover 60's child); but I would love to work there! :welcome:

Have you accomodation sorted out for you? Where you approached before you went about opening a US bank account & purchasing a car for when you get there?

Is this a general question to everyone apriljan? Or to those who are already in the US v those still in the UK? Not sure what you mean about being 'approached' re the bank account and car purchase. Feel free to expand on your concerns, we'll help if we can :)

I was wondering if you letina have accommodation arranged. Citibank got in touch with us from the US (I gave permission for the agency to have people contacting us), with details on how to open an account & obtain a credit card ready to use when we get there. Also a car company offering factory prices on cars so we would have one when we get there.
