Nursing Students Indiana (ISU)

moderator note: this is a continuation of a previous thread that was very long and split by member request. this thread is primarily for current student discussion. there is another thread of faq: https://allnurses.com/distance-learning-nursing/isu-faq-thread-365878.html

we had to take micro, stats, math, biology, couple of humanities, etc, etc. maybe she meant that's just the one specific to nursing, as in in addition to the rest of the gen eds? anyway, good luck on both your applications!

Hey everyone thank you all so much for the wealth of information you provide. Ok so with all this info it's easy to get confused atleast I know I am. I want the option of convience ISU offers but I don't want to deal with extras TCN. I wanted to know if ISU accepts straightliner/online courses or distant learning courses other than those offered through Ivy Tech also are lower level nursing credits transferrable? I want to transfer in as many credits as possible to save on time and money.

You can see some courses that will transfer in to ISU by using the Course Applicability System at http://www.indstate.edu/isu-cas/

Having to pass the CSMS before the application deadline has been a policy for 2 years...not new this year....see post #75 at https://allnurses.com/distance-learning-nursing/indiana-state-university-365874-page8.html#post3695660

Twice a year there are drop dead dates for LPN to BSN applications to the DL program. If one has not passed all the required challenge exams by that date, one cannot apply to the program and must wait untill the next application period opens. This has never changed--only the drop dead date for the application changes. However, I was in error; the standing rule for the challenge exams is: one has three opportunities to pass a exam. However, if one fails an exam on the first of three attempts, one must buy and show receipt for the TCN study guide for that exam and wait one month before retaking the exam.

I wrote to the transfer folks at ISU for the LVN-BSN program about this a few days ago. They said that as long as it is ACE approved and transcribed they will accept them!

Ok can someone confirm this information for admission into the BSN program without a previous license you need to apply, take the teas test (2 weeks after applying) have all of your pre reqs complete. What i'm confused about is when does a new BSN student take the CSM before or after admission and what is the time frame.

Also for current BSN students how long is the estimated completion time?

ok can someone confirm this information for admission into the bsn program without a previous license you need to apply if you are applying to the isu campus' program that is a generic bsn program, you do not need an lvn license. if you are applying to the isu campus' accelerated masters program and already have a bachelors, you do not need an lvn license. however, if you wish to take the isu online lpn/lvn to bsn program, you must have a lpn/lvn license,

take the teas test (2 weeks after applying) have all of your pre reqs complete. you can apply to the university at any time, but it seriously would be best that you have the prerequisites finalized. you can take the isu dl 4 challenge exam at any time after you have applied to the university because you must have an isu student id before applying to the nursing department to take the challenges. teas test: i took it before i considered isu as it was a requirement for another program. the test score was good enough that i did not need to retake it when i forwarded the score to isu. either way, the application to the dl program requires the teas score.

what i'm confused about is when does a new bsn student take the csm before or after admission and what is the time frame. see above. you must have a isu student id to take the 4 challenge exams; to get the id, you must apply to the college.

also for current bsn students how long is the estimated completion time?[/quote] this question has been discussed in previous texts. however, how long it takes you depends on the state you are located and how many general education classes you must take. if you already have a bachelors and fulfilled all the ged requirements, the time is determined by the contract between isu and your state bon. if you want definitive info relating to your specific case, contact isu nursing dept.

I was curious about the admissions process. I saw a disclaimer on the ISU website that there may be a wait list to get into the phase III of the program. If so, what is it and is there anything I can do expedite the process (beyond the required admissions process).

Also, I would like to see some feedback on anyone who has completed/ in process of completing Phase II. How difficult are the exams, what kind of prep did you do, and is there any support from the university for these exams?

thanks for any input!
