Nursing Students Indiana (ISU)

moderator note: this is a continuation of a previous thread that was very long and split by member request. this thread is primarily for current student discussion. there is another thread of faq: https://allnurses.com/distance-learning-nursing/isu-faq-thread-365878.html

we had to take micro, stats, math, biology, couple of humanities, etc, etc. maybe she meant that's just the one specific to nursing, as in in addition to the rest of the gen eds? anyway, good luck on both your applications!

I am so glad that I found you! Is it ok if I have your email so that we can keep in contact? I am currently in Los Angeles and would like to keep in contact with students who are in the program in my area! I am applying for the fall 2010 program

Have you received an acceptance letter for Fall? Just checking in. What part of LA are you in?

Thank you for your very articulate insights on your experience with ISU:) Is there a thread specific to CA ISU program participants? If not would you consider starting it?

Don't know if you are directing this at the OP, but she is located on the east coast.

Interesting idea. You are the first person to realize that there are two ISU LPN/LVN to BSN DL programs. The Calif program and the program for all other US residents. While the Calif program is exactly the same as the ISU DL program, it differs in the amount of clinical classes that the BON has authoirzed Calif students to take a semester. Because there is no limitation placed by other BONs, non-Calif ISU DL students would progress faster through the program...yet they take the same ISU LPN/LVN to BSN nursing classes. This knowledge makes me want to move out of state, which is impossible at the present. While the info I have provided is valid for everyone, my experience is limited to Calif.

I am currently reading through the 100+ pages to this thread, but please forgive me if this question has already been answered. Do anybody know if military credits transfer over to ISU (for former military medics)? like especially A&P and Micro:D. Also I've taken statistics and biomedical statistics, do I still have to take college algebra?:D I tried asking the ISU rep but they kept referring me to TCN or is there a different POC that can help me with my evaluation. Thanks

the isu rep is actually a salesman. his sole purpose is to sign you up into tcn and collect his commission. he may have some info but, as you have seen, he has limited knowledge.

call isu's toll free #. they may be able to help; if they can't help, submit official transcripts (sent directly) from your former school(s). to do this, you must apply to the university and pay a nominal application fee. this will give you a student id #. your id # will put you in the system, and the transcripts sent to isu can be linked to you. when isu evaluates your transcript(s), they will issue a dar. this dar will show what you have taken, what classes transfer, and what classes you will need to take to graduate in the nursing program.

you have had a&p, mico--great. you have 2 stats--you can have only one. however, the other stat may qualify as a critical thinking class. once in the program, you will have to take a nursing research/stat class. go to the isu website and look at the prerequisites. have you taken chem? if not, the prerequisites for chem is algebra. have you satisfied the lpn to bsn program prerequisites? the only way you can have definitive info about which classes transfer is through the isu transcript assessment. until you have the dar in your hands, you have no definitive info about what classes transfer, whether you have met the prerequisites, or what you still need to take.

thank you, i really appreciate your thorough response:). i still need chem, college algebra, and information tech for sure. i am unsure about (a&p and micro) but i will definitely apply for gen admissions to isu for the dar. i emailed a isu counselor and she helped me out a lot with a few questions i had. i still have a few more to ask her..lol

Excelsior has nothing to do with the CSMs. You take those directly through ISU. TCN's modules really are the perfect tool to study for those tests HOWEVER you can get them elsewhere and that's recommended.

How do you search for the CSM study material elsewhere and what sites, on ebay I'm just getting NCLEX results, I just need CSM study material for the 4 nursing course?
