Ivy Tech Nursing Application

U.S.A. Indiana

Published

Hi everyone,

I'll be turning in my application for the ASN program before long. I just wanted to ask if anyone knew of any common mistakes people make on their applications. The last thing I want to do is get rejected because I made a mistake on my application. In my orientation session last October, the application itself wasn't really covered. We were mostly told about completing the requirements necessary to apply for the program. I know that transcripts from all schools attended and the teas score have to be included. Is there anything else? The application seems pretty simple. I just want to make ABSOLUTELY sure I don't screw it up! Thanks in advance & best of luck to everyone applying!

What if you already turned your official transcripts in to Ivy Tech (so you were able to get into classes or get out of taking classes)? Since Ivy Tech has all my official transcripts except Summer 09 term, do I need to again request all my transcripts from all other institutions? Which seems ridiculous, but I wouldn't put it past them.

As far as I know, if you had your official transcripts sent from other colleges to Ivy Tech, then you just need to get copies of those official transcripts from Ivy Tech to submit with the nursing application--as well as either an official Ivy Tech transcript OR a copy of the official Ivy Tech transcript. So for me, since I've attended two other colleges besides Ivy Tech, I will have three total copies of official transcripts to submit, but I'll get all the copies from Ivy Tech.

Make sure you get the transcripts from where you took the course. This is where the mistakes are made. For example: say that a student went to IUPUI and took A&P1 and got an A. Then they transferred to Purdue and took the rest of their courses and got a degree, but the A&P 1 is not from Purdue but was accepted as transfer. You would need to send them your IUPUI and Purdue transcripts to Ivy tech, not just the Purdue transcript, since the grade on the Purdue for A&P is a transfer.

I sent all my original college transcripts from "any college usa" to Ivy Tech. So I should be good, except for the Ivy Tech courses I'm taking this summer and fall terms. My question is - do I have to get another set of original transcripts from "any college usa" to complete the application process?

Double check early to make sure they have the transcripts, sometimes they get lost! That being said, I see your confusion, the application (Indy's anyways) asks for transcripts but doesn't specify if they need to be official, except for the ones sent to the Registrar's office. Better safe than sorry, get the official ones! If that is too much of a pain, I would call the nursing office to find out for sure.

You are right! Better safe than sorry :clown:

I had my university transcripts sent to Ivy Tech as soon as I applied for the school in general. Then, when I was turning in my nursing application, I had requested another set of official transcripts from my previous university as well. Better safe than sorry!

This is what it says in the FAQ handout from the nursing info session:

"The application requires a copy of the college transcripts with the four prerequisite courses. What can I use as a "copy"?

-If any of the courses are from Ivy Tech Comm College, you will pay the Bursar $5.00 and request your transcript from the Registrar. It does not have to be in a sealed envelope because you will be highlighting the courses and grades.

-If any of the courses are from another college and you have submitted an official copy to the Ivy Tech Comm College Registrar, you may request a copy of the official submission from the Registrar. This will have a stamp with the date received and is acceptable for your application.

-If any of the courses are from another college and you have NOT submitted an official copy to the Ivy Tech Comm College Registrar, please provide an original transcript. This does not have to be in a sealed envelope because you will be highlighting the courses and grades."

Hope that helps! The nursing chair at Indy told me that sometimes people apply to the nursing program who aren't even admitted students to Ivy Tech, (i.e. haven't ever taken any courses at Ivy Tech) and thus they just use transcripts that they got from their colleges. They have to be official though I believe. If those people get accepted into nursing, then they go ahead and get officially admitted to Ivy Tech and order transcripts to be sent. So it's not even a requirement to be officially admitted to Ivy Tech in order to apply for nursing.
