Ivy Tech Nursing Application

U.S.A. Indiana

Published

Hi everyone,

I'll be turning in my application for the ASN program before long. I just wanted to ask if anyone knew of any common mistakes people make on their applications. The last thing I want to do is get rejected because I made a mistake on my application. In my orientation session last October, the application itself wasn't really covered. We were mostly told about completing the requirements necessary to apply for the program. I know that transcripts from all schools attended and the teas score have to be included. Is there anything else? The application seems pretty simple. I just want to make ABSOLUTELY sure I don't screw it up! Thanks in advance & best of luck to everyone applying!

I had fancy report portfolio folders for both of my applications this week (Lawrence and Bloomington) and they just took the papers out and stapled them all together.

One thing I saw on the Lawrence FAQs was that if you took the TEAS at a different campus that you needed to have that campus' nursing office fax the TEAS results to Lawrence. And this is in addition to you turning in a copy of your TEAS as well.

Make sure to keep copies of everything!

I would talk to someone directly in the nursing department at Indy. They specifically said in our info session that they DO NOT update applications with spring grades, and that it is OUR responsibility to turn in the grades to the office when they are available. They are due in the nursing office by 5/16. Not saying any of this as the gospel, just this is what the director said in our session at Indy, which is where I'm applying, and this is what I'm going to do.

Oh no. I am out of town until the 18th....what the heck am I gonna do...

Kara,

Maybe you could talk with the program chair and ask if some kind of arrangement can be made? I don't think the registrar would release your transcripts to anyone else but you or I would help...You will figure it out.

I really hope so. I will have to call tomorrow.

Woohoo! They are going to look my grades up for me :)

Yay Kara, that is wonderful news!

Just a heads up. If anyone is applying to Region 6 (muncie, anderson, marion, new castle) you do NOT need to bring another copy of your transcript with final grades on it. I asked the program chair today and she said its not necessary and they will look up the grades in the system.

Regarding an earlier post about 'official transcript' vs. 'unofficial transcript' vs. 'true copy of official transcript'. . . I believe that a 'true copy of an official transcript' is different than an 'unofficial transcript.' An 'unofficial transcript' might have the word "UNOFFICIAL" stamped across it, while a 'true copy of an official' does not, and an official may have the college's seal stamped on it. Typically, colleges will not release an actual official transcript to the student, unless it is in a sealed envelope, and usually they will mail it to your college that you want to send it to. But, apparently they will release a COPY of an official transcript to the student.

Indy nursing program will accept a copy of your official transcript(s) as part of the application. So will Region 6 Anderson, Muncie, etc. I think it says in the info from Indy that it doesn't have to be an actual official transcript because they expect you to use a highlighter to highlight the pre-req courses on it.

I know it has been awhile since the postings on this thread, but I was under the impression that you could not count the classes you are currently enrolled in as part of your application. I hope I have incorrect information. Just to make sure I understand this correctly (Evansville), I will be completing the rest of my prerequisites in the Fall of 09, because of that, I can still apply for the Spring semester or do I have to wait another semester to apply? The reason I ask is because the website mentions that courses immediately preceding the semester that a student is applying to get into the program will not be counted...

If you are completing any of the 4 pre-reqs in Fall 09, then you can't apply to start in Spring '10 because there is no semester in between. You'd have to wait to apply until April, for the Fall '10 start.

Thanks for the clarification...I thought that was how it had to be, but after reading the posts, I thought that perhaps there was something I was missing.

i would say make sure ALL transcripts are official. 40 students were denied admission on that basis last semester i heard.
