Ivy Tech Nursing Application

Published

Hi everyone,

I'll be turning in my application for the ASN program before long. I just wanted to ask if anyone knew of any common mistakes people make on their applications. The last thing I want to do is get rejected because I made a mistake on my application. In my orientation session last October, the application itself wasn't really covered. We were mostly told about completing the requirements necessary to apply for the program. I know that transcripts from all schools attended and the teas score have to be included. Is there anything else? The application seems pretty simple. I just want to make ABSOLUTELY sure I don't screw it up! Thanks in advance & best of luck to everyone applying!

Make sure that all transcripts are submitted, even Ivy Tech ones! I was not accepted and had to wait a semester to get in because one of my grades did not copy well, and they are not required to walk to another office to get it. The grade was not counted, which gave me 179 points. Only listen to info from the nursing office, and get everything you can in writing! saves alot of tears and frustration! good luck!

Circe,

Also, make sure ALL transcripts submitted are official!! And if you are taking a prereq this semester, you have to get a NEW Ivy Tech official transcript after Spring grades are recorded (in addition the one you submit on 4/1) and take it to the nursing office. If you don't they won't count get your spring grades. This is what they told us in the info session I went to.

Which info session did you go to? They told me at Indy that copies were acceptable, and the Anderson/Muncie campus needed to be "true" which I am assuming is the same as official...I wish they would have one standard..it is hard to keep them all straight!

I went to the one in Indy in January. I had heard conflicting info, too, so I stayed after to ask the chair specifically about this, and she told me they needed to be official. I would say it's better to be safe and get official copies if possible.

That's very interesting about the transcripts. The cover letter on the nursing application I picked up from the nursing office (in Evansville) says, "These can be unofficial copies". Also, in my nursing session, they never mentioned bringing new transcipts to the office in order to have this semester's grades counted. I wonder if maybe I should talk with my advisor just to make sure I don't screw any of this up.

I would talk to someone directly in the nursing department at Indy. They specifically said in our info session that they DO NOT update applications with spring grades, and that it is OUR responsibility to turn in the grades to the office when they are available. They are due in the nursing office by 5/16. Not saying any of this as the gospel, just this is what the director said in our session at Indy, which is where I'm applying, and this is what I'm going to do.

Melissa 2012 is right. you are responsible for getting them the info needed.

and again, deal directly with the nursing dept., the counselors and advisors do not always have the correct info.

Melissa, I understand completely! I would HATE not getting accepted because I made a small error on my application. I'm going to be a nervous wreck waiting until the end of May....

One other thing: Here in Evansville, they give us a nursing adviser after we complete the orientation session. Do they not do that elsewhere?

That is a great question....I would love to know the answer as far as how it is done in Indy. The nursing program up here is shrouded it secrecy, it seems, until you get accepted. If not for allnurses, I would know nothing about the program!

And because I'm so OCD, I'm now wondering...how do we submit the application? I mean do we just staple it all together, put it in one of those report folder things, a manila envelope, what???

That's too bad. I would think they would want all the information possible out there. What is the program chair like? So far ours has been really helpful. She even met with me privately over the summer and went through my other school's transcripts to tell me what they would (unofficially) take, etc. She gave me tons of information. I just wish I would've known more things to ask her then.

Unless I find out otherwise, I'm just going to staple my transcripts together, then paper-clip everything together, and put it in a manila envelope. If I find out anything else different, I'll post it here, but it sounds like Indy's program is a little different then ours.
