Pharmacology vs Medical Terminology Class

Hi,

Truman College recommended Pharmacology for Nurses and/or Medical Terminology class for new nursing students. Which class is more useful to take? Which will be utilized when working as a nurse? Please let me know.

These are two completely different classes you need to take both...

I'm not at Truman CC student, so I can't say definitively, but you need Pharmacology while medical terminology's merely nice to have - a lot of it you can pick up as you go.

Woh! No question! Take the pharm course! Take TWO if you can!

Medical terminology will be included in your first (and all subsequent) nursing courses.

I read my textbooks with a small nursing dictionary at my side. It's easy to just lookup the words you see all the time, like "supine." Later, if you want, you can look up the "fun" words (like rhabdomyolysis!) !!!

According to the Secretary in Truman's Nursing dept, these classes are not required. I find it strange that pharm is not required.

I had the same question in reference to both courses for the nursing program. I borrowed a medical terminology book (The Medicine of Language) and I'm looking into purchasing a Pharmacology book (that's not to technical) recommended here on allnurses. I have to take a biology class this summer and pharm is not offered at the CC.

If you can take both, please do! I never had a medical terminology class, so I think that would have been helpful when first starting out in school. Can you take that one first? Trust me, it'll be easier.
