Could you post a little about your qualifications? Did you work as an nurses aide? Have a bsn? Internal or external candidate?

I worked as a collegiate nurse at another hospital for over a year. No BSN yet.

Hey Rescue Ninja. I see you're from Cicero Il. I used to live in Cicero. How have you found the job market in Chicago bc it seems horrible according to the threads here in allnurses.

I'm starting my nursing program in Jan 14 and I'm extremely nervous about scarce job opportunities

Hi martina238612, for the most part, there are lots of nursing positions out there, it's the qualifications that must be met that make it seem so scarce, such as an ADN grad needing a BSN and just the fact that many facilities require 1-2 years experience.

So are you going for your BSN or have you been able to find a job as a ADN?!

Also, keep in mind that the job market a year ago is not what it is now. Many companies are panicking due to the new health care reforms being rolled out. A year ago, that panic hadn't set in yet and two years from now it may be over!

We should keep a positive attitude. I don't believe 2 years from now it'll be over. It will be competitive as it is now. But we have to stand out from the crowd and show prospect employers why we are great potential employees. Them prove ourselves to them and then everything should come nicely into place
