HESI Questions

Nursing Students HESI

Published

Hi All! I'm taking my HESI in just under 2 weeks. I was feeling really confident until I noticed how many negative experiences some folks here have had with their entrance HESI exams...

I've been studying, and doing *okay* on my practice tests, but definitley need more study time put in. I've been using my prospective school's study guide, but they only have one practice test per subject. Does any one know of a good ENTRANCE study HESI guide? I accidently ordered one for the NCLEX, and was dumbfounded. LOL!

Also, is there a typical time frame that you get your results in after taking the HESI? Any other hints/tips/advice is absolutley graciously appreciated!

Thanks!

Dee

Just remember everyone is different and comes from different educational backgrounds. I think if you have been in college for a while it will help you in certain areas of the test like grammar, vocab, math and reading. Some RN programs only require 5-6 pre-reqs just to get in. In my opinion those are the people that will have a difficult time with the test. Dont get me wrong I am nervous just like you are...I am going to take it in May. I have the Hesi a2 study guide its the second addition. A lot of people said the math is exactly like the study guide. For anatomy I bought the anatomy for dummies guide so I can refresh. Dont forget to study the vocab in the hesi guide and anatomical positions which i heard were included in the vocab portion of the test.

Thanks, dcaradon!

Good info- I think I'll refresh on my Bio 100 class taken so long ago!

Good luck in May! If you're studying now I'm sure you'll do great!

Hi Folks! Don't sweat the test. It really isn't all that bad. There is a study guide on here for like $40. I forget the guide is called, but if you do a search it will pop up. The only thing that I remember is that it has yellow and black on the cover page. The study guide not only gives you some good stuff on each section, but it gives you testing tips too.

The math was pretty easy. Mostly ratios, percentages, and converting. There were some simple math as well. I think i got 1 wrong on the section.

Vocab I think I got 2 wrong on this section.

Grammar I think I got 1 wrong on this section.

Biology I got 1 wrong.

Chemistry I got 1 wrong.

Reading I didn't get any wrong.

I received an overall score of 95.33%

I say all of this to simply say that if you prepare and follow the study guides test tips you will be fine. The number one thing is to not let test stress kill your chances of success. I study for a week and that is it. If you are doing well on the practice test you should be good. Don't stress! : )

The test was a lot easier than i expected it to be. I scored a 97 overall. Like the person above posted, the math is pretty basic, mostly percentages, ratios, fractions, and very little pre-algebra. Although, make sure to brush up on measurement conversions. The reading and other sections are pretty self explanatory. Just study the guide and you'll do fine. As far as how long it takes to get results, i got mine on the spot after i finished the test. The guy printed it out for me. Good luck!

Thanks, RB2000 and AVMadd!

And congratulations to you both for doing so well! :yeah:

This definitley gives me hope!

I'm thinking that as long as I can pull of a 90%, I'll be accepted into the program.

Back to studying! :p

Hi,

I just took the Hesi A2 today and it wasn't bad at all. Don't over stress yourself about it :) Just brush up on your weak areas. You probably take harder exams during the semester compared to this one!

Like everyone else said, it's BASIC math: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of decimals, percentages, ratios, fractions. Learn your roman numerals, conversions and military time. There is a calculator on the screen for the math.

I only had to take the Math, Reading Comp and Vocabulary sections and we got our results printed on the spot.

I didn't feel the reading or vocab sections were very difficult.

Good luck to you!

Thank you, gems37.

You all are SO helpful! And encouraging me a great deal :bowingpur

Thank you all! Testing in a little over a week now- and CANNOT wait for it to be OVER! :lol2:

@ RB2000 is there a way you can give me more info on the HESI A2 study guide?
