manly scrub top protocol...
So is there any. The scrub tops with the two pockets at the front hem seem way more practical, but is that style considered girlie? Do most guys wear scrub tops with the single breast pocket? Or am i just imagining things? Thoughts?? Thanks, aaron

HESI A2 enterance exam help please!!
The HESI study guide really is the best way to prepare for the test. Yes, it will cost you a few bucks, but in the long run, it's worth it. I used this book and scored a 97 overall on the HESI. Do yourself a favor. Bite the bullet and buy the book. http://www.amazon.com/Evolve-Reach-Admission-Assessment-Review/dp/1416056351/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1265691072&sr=8-5

HESI Questions
The test was a lot easier than i expected it to be. I scored a 97 overall. Like the person above posted, the math is pretty basic, mostly percentages, ratios, fractions, and very little pre-algebra. Although, make sure to brush up on measurement conversions. The reading and other sections are pretty self explanatory. Just study the guide and you'll do fine. As far as how long it takes to get results, i got mine on the spot after i finished the test. The guy printed it out for me. Good luck!

Scott & White Internship
Are there any ADN's in the S&W internship, or is it just BSN's?

Know of Any ADN Programs With No Wait List?
McLennan Community College in Waco, Texas. No waiting list. Apply by the deadline with all the prereqs knocked out, a high GPA, and a high HESI A2 score and you're in. The have 80 spots to fill each semester. If you're not in the top 80 then they scrap your app and you have to reapply next semester. Good luck! http://www.mclennan.edu/departments/hsp/adn/

Health Care Reform bill jeopardizing the future of nursing?
Keep in mind that this question is coming from someone (me) who knows very little about the bill. But i keep hearing people say that this Health Care Reform bill (if passed) will destroy the careers of those working in the Health Care. Is this true? How will this bill affect nurses? Will the salary that nurses have become used to still be there when the smoke clears? Will the jobs still be there?

Male in a female dominated field.. How bad is it really??
Thanks for that bit of advice... Not to worry though, i'm married :) Also, i'm glad to hear that doctors are watching their p's and q's a bit more with male nurses around. Although, I've no doubt, there're a few docs who could benefit from a good ole ass woopin.

Male in a female dominated field.. How bad is it really??
So i read all of this stuff on this site about back-stabbing and catty behavior amongst nurses. Politics and all of the headaches that go along with it. And i realize that there's going to be some degree of politics and drama at any job, but i can't help but ask you guys... How bad is it really? Do you find yourslef drowning in female fueled animosity as a male nurse? And if so, how do you cope? I'm a student working toward my ADN, and i really do want to become a nurse, but i'm a bit scared that someday i'll have one of those 'what-the-hell-did-i-get-myself-into' moments when i find myself balanced on the business end of some lady-drama.

How come t here are no Males RNs on a peds floor?
To the OP: This is quite possibly one of the most offensive posts i've ever seen. Tell me, do you honestly think that being a male nurse would place a guy in a higher risk bracket for pedophilia than a male coach or male doctor or male teacher?? When's the last time you heard of a child in a peds wing being molested by their nurse?? To be honest, i would be more scared of leaving my kids alone with someone like you, who might plant a bunch of prejudiced garbage in their heads, than a male nurse or male babysitter. You should be ashamed of yourself.

A&P 1 and Microbiology
Yeah, unfortunately there will be those weeks where you'll get totally raped with exams in all your classes. All i can say is take'em one at a time. Don't stress, just map out your study time and do your best. When i have multiple exams in one week, i study for the one that comes first in the week, focus on that subject as much as possible and then take the test. After that test is out of the way, start studying for the next one. Just go down the line and keep your head up. Remind yourself that it'll all pay off in the long run. Sometimes you may have to sacrifice some sleep, but you gotta just grit your teeth and do whatever it takes to get that A! Don't let your classes beat you. You are in control.

Mclennan Community College Info
I'm currently a pre-nursing student at MCC. I spoke with the assistant in the ADN office the other day and found out some interesting facts. First of all, MCC is no longer giving the NET for the entrance exam into the program. They have switched to the HESI A2. I also asked her what my GPA needed to be in order to be competitive in the application process, and she said that a cumulative (i.e. all courses, not just science) GPA of at least 3.4 will usually get you into the program. Hope this helps. :) FYI, this info is only pertaining to the regular ADN program. I don't know anything about the LVN-RN bridge.

A&P 1 and Microbiology
I am currently taking A&P1 and MicroBio. At my school, both of these classes are pretty demanding. There's not a whole lot of homework, but there's loads of info to memorize and the tests are certainly intense. I also have kids at home (3 of 'em) and i work full time at night. I don't think i'd be able to do it if not for the help and support that i get from my wife. A&P is all about the human body. Systems and their functions along with everything associated with the individual body systems. It's quite detailed. Loads of memorizing. MicroBio is the study of various types of microorganisms, from bacteria to fungi to viruses and so on. Again, loads of memory work, but the labs in Micro are awesome. So, i would say that these two classes taken at the same time are managable if you're driven enough to give it your all. Plus you're going to need some kind of support network, whether it be through spouse or friends or church, whatever, just someone to help out with the kiddos while you study. And when i say study, i mean study you butt off. Good luck to you :)

Possible relocation to Tyler, Texas...
Tyler is a great place to live (at least in Texas anyway). It's a very pretty, medium sized city of about 100,000 pop., with plenty of stuff to do for fun. Tyler is a cleaner city when compared to most cities of it's size in Texas. I currently live in Waco which is a dump compared to Tyler. The above post said that apartments start at 650. I feel sure that you can find one cheaper than that for a one bedroom. Tyler is absolutely cheaper than DFW. I grew up in Tyler and my wife and I moved from there about 6 years ago. My home mortgage including escrow ran at about 550 or so for a really small two bedroom house (1000 sq. ft. or so)that was in a decent neighborhood. You'll probably want to find a place closer to the hospitals but not too far into the north side of town as it tends to get a bit dodgy the farther north you go. But, price wise, i'm sure that it'll be WAY cheaper than you're used to in Hawaii. There are two major hospitals in Tyler. Trinity Mother Frances and East Texas Medical Center. Both are located right next to the other. You can imagine the competition involved. Because of this competition, both hospitals are excellent. Lots of really talented nurses and MD's. Lots of specialists as well. My mother worked as an RN for Mother Frances for about 20 years in various departments. Overall, i would say that she had a positive experience. She currently works for the ETMC Psyciatric facility, and she's loving it there. Trinity Mother Frances (TMF) is a very organized hospital. It's a pretty nice facility and it's pretty large as well. They're huge on customer service. Two of my children were born there and we had a fantastic experience both times. The staff at Mother Frances are partially responsible for my decision to go to Nursing school. I think you'll like it at TMF. And welcome to Tyler. It was home to me for most of my life and i'm sure it will become home to you as well.
