  1. Hey everyone, Well I made it back safely from my trip to Texas and decided to take the position on the General Medicine floor... I start Sept. 28th so that means I have to pack up everything and move to Texas real soon... Thanks for all the comments!!! Wish me luck!!!
  2. Hey ncube, I wanted to work on the tele floor but they had no more openings but I am excited to interview for the general medical floor and hope that when next week, when I head out there, a tele positions will open LOL... probably unlikely but I am still excited to visit!!! Thanks for the update!!!
  3. Hey Sharkasurf... Well hopefully if I get the position we will be working together *wink*
  4. Thank you AVMADD. I am going to be visiting August 10th for about a week. I am excited to see what Tyler has in store for me.
  5. I think nursing as a career choice has many options. Burnout with nurses is very common but their are many ways around it from what I was told. I am a new graduate and looking for a job but I do know that with your BSN you have the opportunity to do many things in the medical field. You don't have to work acute care, where a lot of the burn out happens. You can choose to do administrative work, management, ect... If you decide you don't want to do nursing or any medical field for that matter, I would think you would be able to use your credits to something you decide more appealing. I have an auntie who was a nurse and gave it all up to become a successful real estate agent in California. My family thought she was crazy at the time because she had so many student loans to pay off but she ended up bettering herself as a real estate agent than as a nurse... just an example :wink2: I think nursing is a great career and I look forward to working my dream job. I hope you find your way. I believe it takes a special person to become a nurse and that someone should not go into nursing for the wrong reasons. Hope that is a little helpful!!!!
  6. Graduated in December 2008, passed my boards in March 2009. Only recently had a phone interview and flying out to have a person interview... (out-of-state job). Be prepared to be searching for a while. Those who received jobs right after graduated are super lucky.... I on the other hand have not had such luck
  7. I have an interview for a medical floor, which I am very excited about. I have read everyone's advice and they are great!!! I know that if I end up getting the job and working I will definitely freak out... but I know it takes time to feel completely comfortable. I love nursing and can't wait to start my career.
  8. Thank you for your input. I plan to visit for a week in August for interviews and to get an idea of the area. I am sure coming from Hawaii that it will be very different but exciting. I am looking forward to it
  9. Hi everyone, After a long search for the perfect new grad position, Texas has been very welcoming and promising for me. I recently got a call from Trinity Mother Frances in Tyler, TX for the general medical unit and wanted to ask my fellow Texans, who know the area, affordable places to live and where I should be looking. I will be visiting for my interview next month (Aug. 2009) and wanted to look around. Wish me luck everyone... oh and an update on the hospital would be greatly appreciated. :wink2: Much love & aloha
  10. hi everyone, i am a bsn graduate and passed my boards in march 2009 . i have been trying to look for a job ever since... i have my rn license in the state of hawaii & washington but after searching forever i have now given up on those 2 states i am now looking forward to an interview i will be getting in texas (tyler to be exact) at trinity mother frances. after waiting for the perfect opportunities i have realized that you might have to look in places you might not expect. i am hopeful and although i never thought i would end up in texas... i might just end up liking it there, who know?!?!?! wish me luck everyone....
  11. I graduated in December 2008 with my BSN and have an active license in the State of Hawaii (where I live) and in State of Washington (where I was hoping to get a job but was greatly disappointed)... I have now started to look in California, Texas, and Arizona in attempts to widen my search. I have become increasingly frustrated with looking for jobs and well I have run out of ideas. I was considering in applying for a facility I had my clinical at which specializes in medically fragile children but my problem with that is although I kind-of like it, that is not where I want to be at all. I think to myself if I take that position, how can I move up and into a hospital where I want to be. I love Telemetry and Critical Care and that is where I want to be but if I work a specialty area I would feel like I am going to be stuck there and won't be able to do what I really... really want to do because I have specialty/LTC experience and hospitals always mention they want ACUTE care experience. I also have a feeling that I will not be happy there and that I waisted my time in nursing school. Am I being too picky?? *Sigh* I always had high expectations for myself and well finding the right match for me would mean so much... I just don't know what to do anymore... Any suggestions?????
