{{{{{{{{{{Guys}}}}}}}}}}}}} Supposed to have snow here tomorrow, EASTER! 39 degrees for a HIGH! I bought these nice shoes that are totally inappropriate for snow :( -- and my new outfit will look so caché er, awfulée, with my bean bootés!

xo

Not doing much special, eating leftovers at home (can you hear the violin playing?) Actually some major stores closed (funny how we have to be so pc but yet they close for "Easter"...) -- my ex MIL may go to church with me tomorrow nite.

Hope all are well!

Zoe.......maybe you can wear the new outfit with the your new "rollerblade" shoes........you get along with your ex MIL, the one I have now is the first one I have ever gotten along with, I can't wait to see her thursday.

I hope everyone has a wonderful EASTER, snow or not.

I gave my grandsons their easter baskets last week and the 1 1/2 figured out if you throw the plastic eggs on the ground, they break open and you can eat the candy......not sure his mom liked that...oh well.

Blue.......it was weird for us too, one day was 85 and the next freezing...just too big a difference in temps....

GM and Happy Easter!

I had a pretty good day yesterday, food-wise. Tweety, I thought about what you said about sodium and decided that we'd worry about that later. First we need to get the weight off and the cholesterol down. I really think that just limiting our food consumption will probably have a good effect on our sodium consumption as well.

The trip to the doc's was a great opportunity for me to do a little teaching, because there were heart models there and there was a model of a plaqued artery at various stages. DH kept asking, "What exactly did I do to cause this event?" and I kept trying to reinforce that it's like when my back goes out--it might not be one big thing, but it's more like the last straw in a series of conditions.

I showed him how the plaque collects on the artery wall and from there it was easy to demonstrate how a piece could break off, cause an injury and clot off the next portion of the artery.

I hope that made sense. He said it did.

Anyhow, back to the food. I had the main meal early and had some French onion soup for supper (sans cheese). For some reason, I could only eat half my portion of oatmeal.

Some people say you need to eat all of it to avoid going to a "starvation metabolism," but I'm getting to the point where I simply can't force-feed myself anymore.

Weird craving for grapefruit too. I ate a whole one in the parking lot at the grocery store waiting for my friend to finish up at the drugstore. They're pretty small this year, but still juicy and tasty.

Oh and it's freezing here too! We were going to go to a sunrise service that they have outdoors, but we're way too cold!

Yeah, THAT would go over really well! lol!

Ang, I like your sig! It is so true too ...

Hope you have a happy Easter!

Angie, if you guys don't have hypertension sodium isn't something you might not have to look at. Sounds like you're doing well so far. Nothing like a heart attack to jump start a diet eh?

Zoe, I've been eating Ezekial (sp?) low sodium whole grain bread and it's pretty good.

I went to the gym yesterday but didn't eat too well. Today I'm going to an Easter meal over at a friends, but back to the diet tomorrow. :)

Found a tasty recipe for breakfast. NOT low sodium, but tasty and a break from the usual routine. This is South Beach compliant for phase 2 & 3 if anyone is interested....

Morning Monte Cristo

Phase 2 & 3

Prep Time: 10 min

Total Time: 16 min

Makes: 8 servings, 1 open-faced sandwich each

INGREDIENTS

- 1 egg

- 1/2 cup cholesterol-free egg product

- 1/2 cup fat free milk

- 8 slices whole wheat bread

- 8 tsp. sugar-free apricot preserves

- 24 slices Shaved Smoked Ham

- 8 - 2% Milk Singles, cut in half (I changed this for swiss, use whatever you like.)

DIRECTIONS

Preheat electric griddle to 300°F. Beat egg, egg product and milk in pie plate or shallow dish with wire whisk until well blended.

Spray griddle with cooking spray. Dip bread slices in egg mixture, turning over to evenly coat both sides. Add to hot griddle; cook 2 to 3 min. on each side or until golden brown on both sides.

Spread each bread slice with 1 tsp. preserves. Top evenly with ham and 2% Miilk Singles.

Zoe, I used to rollerblade a lot, and you're making me miss being able to.

Blue, that does look good. I'll have to copy that recipe for when DH decides to have some ham; he'll love it.

Tweety, you're right, DH's BP is pretty high, but he's pretty stubborn. I figured I'd let the folks at the Cardiac Rehab tackle the sodium thing. He was drinking a lot of sugar-filled pop (which also is loaded with Na), so I thought I'd try cutting him down so invisibly he wouldn't notice. He doesn't use extra salt on his food.

I notice that he bought ground turkey in place of ground beef last week, and I see a few stores even have ground chicken.

We had an egg and olive salad for lunch today. I might make some fish chowder later if I feel like cooking. That's very low-cal and filling too. Depends on what DH wants.

By the way - 241 for two days now. With clothes. :D

Good news Angie. :) His BP should drop after he looses the weight. I've seen male patients like that, stubborn to the end. What a lot of us don't realize is that healthy food tastes good and it's not like you're giving up anything, but weight, poor health and morbidity. Keep up the good work.

We have to get into an exercise program. So far DH says our jobs are physical enough. Any suggestions for what to say to that?

:)

angie,

our jobs are stop and start exercise

one needs 20 min plus of cardio, right ?

so work is not exercise

but at least it is not sitting on the couch either

Hi guys!

I had read this article in Prevention magazine a few months ago.

http://www.prevention.com/article/0,5778,s1-3-61-462-7761-1,00.html

It's about why it's important to lower your sodium intake, even if you have normal BP. Check it out.

Interesting article, Blue, thanks for sharing. I scanned and read parts of it to DH, so I'm sure he'll get thinking about it.

Muffie, twenty minutes without a break would probably kill me at this point. I have to really pace myself at work so I don't poop out before the end of the shift. However, I did have a fun time this morning dancing to that cool new song I heard. DS rolled his eyes so much that I told him to cut it or they'd get stuck like that.

I did make some fish chowder and boy, did that hit the spot. Always nice to have a low-fat comfort food around when you need one. So I had a second bowl and I'm stuffed.
