VA Hiring Process

From the previous posts I've read the VA hiring process is pretty long and drawn out. I've applied to two different VA sites. The VA an hour away from my home I can always get in contact with a nurse recruiter and my application status for two posting says "referred to selecting official." The VA closest to my home, I can't get through to the recruiter, she emailed me back once and the status of all the apps just says "application received." I do know a nurse practitioner that works at this VA site and she tried to give my resume to the recruiter, but I had to apply online.

For those of you that are familiar with the hiring process, any idea what the next step is. In all there are around 20 RN vacancies. The two systems have two completely different online application submissions, how will I know if I've completed the application process correctly, its a little confusing :(

I've been applying since I've graduated and earlier this year I found out that I was applying the wrong way so those positions don't count. These positions closed in September.

Thanks in advance ?

hello,

intrestered in dodea will u pls contact me?

say no he low balling you

The job I applied for closed on 2/2.

I received a phone call on 2/7 for a phone interview.

My phone interview took place on 2/10, which wasn't that bad. (Try to be real, make them laugh, and be likeable.) They told me I should hear back in 1-2 weeks if I got it.

I received a tentative job offer the next AM!

My resume was forwarded to the salary board for evaluation. I haven't heard from them yet.

I just completed VetPro and e-QIP. *e-QIP is easy compared to a military background investigation that requires 10 years of employment and residences.

I will do my fingerprinting and the occupational physical in the next two days.

Everything seems to be going well despite the tons of forms and paperwork to get through.

So I received a verbal tentative job offer on the sci unit yesterday. I called the manager who interviewed me to follow up and that's when she told me the good news. She told me she contacted hr on 2/13 about the offer and that I should be getting the vetpro link sent to me. Does it usually take a while to get this emailed to me? Also, I know I will have to put in 3 references. Do these have to be from my current job? I have only worked as an rn for 6 Months and before that I did social work for (casework mostly) about 6 years. I can't think of anyone from my current job I would want to reference and I trust my previous supervisors to go above and beyond to do a reference for me even though they technically cannot judge my nursing abilities. Thanks!

You have probably heard that VetPro is the VA's credentialing program. It asks for references that were in a position to judge your clinical nursing skills. There were provisions for new grads though. I just listed 3 nurses who were senior to me over the last couple years and gave those RNs a heads up. Hope that helps.

You will have a point-of-contact from human resources who will guide you through the hiring process. They will check with you to make sure things are getting done and help you if you are having difficulty.

Good to know thank u!

I have two rns I have in mind to put as references but I'm struggling to think of a 3rd.. do u think I could put my previous clinical nursing instructor as my 3rd?

Yes, clinical instructors are great references they know your nursing skills and your potential. Just give her/him heads-up!

Fyi. They will require you to give current employee information and they will contact them before an offer. I tried to get around this with no luck. I ended up going into my manager at the time and telling them flat out what was going on. She was not necessarily happy but understood. They contacted them and I had my job offer by the end of the next day.

So I received a conditional offer of employment through my email today and am waiting for my VETpro link still. In the email it states that they are going to require me to put 3 PERSONAL references into VETpro. I thought it was going to have to be coworkers that can judge my clinical capabilities. I'm wondering if this is because I'm a fairly new nurse still with about 6 mths of experience.. does anyone know if they ask for personal if you don't really have much nursing experience?

VetPro will be clinical references. When you do e-QIP you will need to list people who know you at places you've lived and worked for the last 5 years. This is from my e-mail:

This is from my letter:

"An additional component of the credentialing process is a personal reference check. You will be asked to provide three personal references and they will be sent a request letter via mail. It is recommended that you contact your references to request their cooperation in returning the letter in a timely manner, as this will impact your date of employment." This is in my paragraph that explains VETpro.

After this it explains Eqip as a totally separate background check.... And that its basically another questionnaire I have to do.

What do you think?
