hello everyone,

got a question. when applying for the 2012 nurse corp selection boards, are all the applicants all over the country competing with eachother or do you compete with just your region? i was told there were only 22 slots and if we are competing with the whole country-OMG! waiting on an answer sucks. my recruiter has a back up plan for me if i dont get picked the first time for the med/surg but hopefully I do, and good luck to everyone else as well. talk to you all soon.

I'm sure if you get in, you will be fine. Definitely do not let this distract you from school. If you don't pass, then you really won't get in LOL. You have to do what's best for you and your family. You're mom may not understand now, but she will. and she can always come visit. But like you said it will work out one way or another :-)

ATLRN0828,

Yeah, i definitely won't let this get in the way of my studies and risk failing, im too close to graduation to screw it up now. LOL. at first i was insecure thinking that me not being done with school yet would lessen my chance of getting picked but my recruiter said that is not the case. so since you live in atlanta, is your recruiter in atlanta too or somewhere else? thank god mine is close but im sure some people have to drive a pretty good ways for paper signing and stuff like that.

Hello again, Thought I would jump in. I'm fairly nervous considering that I am a psych nurse and there are only around 40 of use in the AF. Not very forgiving. They will pick with the AF in mind not me. If I am not selected then perhaps they will need me next time around.

Hey RN4Life2.....are you also awaiting this board result? If so, is it for Med-Surg or Psych nursing? Just curious.

Hi kdazzle....I agree with ATLRN0828, just stay positive and open minded and all will be fine.

Kdazzle,My recruiter is in Atlanta. Only about 20 or 30 minutes from my house. I'm glad she was pretty close.

hello RN4life2,

Isn't this crazy, how nervous we all are? this boy in my class at school is applying for the psych selection board too and i know he is super nervous as well. I am applying for the med/surg board an there are about 22 slots. i think with the psych, there are like 8 slots from what my class mate told me. good luck to everyone.

hey ATLRN0828,

yeah my recruiter isn't that far either thank god. that would be rough to have to fax everything and try to figure out the long drive for the papers we needed the real (and not copied) signatures for. LOL.

willtsmith, for Psych.

My recruiter is about six to seven hours away. It has been difficult. As with the psych slots, that is good news. I was worried that I would have to wait for a slot if selected. Best of luck to him.

I applaud all of you out there that can do psych nursing. I dont think I could. I get confused people from time to time on my med/surg floor and it takes soooo much patience-which i have alot of but my fustrations come from those patients that are so confused that they like to pull out their IV's, catheters etc and are combative and have to be put in restraints. those are the ones that really test my patience. I just heard we have to wait until the 28th for results now. did your recruiter say that the results weren't coming out until the 28th for psych and med/surg board or just your psych board selection?

All that I got was that the healthcare professions board releases on the 28th. Psych can have its challenges, that is for sure. One advantage of a locked floor is that we have fairly stable medical cases. Once in a while we will get the gun shot wound or a failure to thrive. Geri has the most medical heavy clients and can be very combative.
