hello everyone,

got a question. when applying for the 2012 nurse corp selection boards, are all the applicants all over the country competing with eachother or do you compete with just your region? i was told there were only 22 slots and if we are competing with the whole country-OMG! waiting on an answer sucks. my recruiter has a back up plan for me if i dont get picked the first time for the med/surg but hopefully I do, and good luck to everyone else as well. talk to you all soon.

willtsmith,

Are you applying for med/surg too?

ATLRN0828Yes I am going in for med-surg

So am I. I have 4 yrs hem/onc experience, so I had to apply for med/surg. I thought about after getting in trying to switch to ER or ICU. But not sure.

@kdazzle~My recruiter is in Fairview Heights, I'll., and not to scare you but I have 7yrs ER, every certification they wanted, had a fantastic interview and did not get picked. And now I have heard nothing from my recruiter despite many attempts to find out which board he resubmitted my application to. I've received zero replies. And now, my husband is going with our backup with him going into the Navy, but he can't proceed until we know what is going on. It's gotten extremely frustrating, so I'm just hoping you have a better experience than I have had. Do try to not take it personally.

hello rndiver82,

that's awesome that your so credentialed. i need to get more certifications. it's so easy to get carried away with life's stress's and let time fly by. that is so weird to me that someone with an application like yours would be rejected. its so hard to know what they are looking for. you would think that they would spell it out loud and clear on what the qualifications were so you knew whether or not you had a better chance of getting picked or not so someone doesn't waste their time, you know what i mean? it's almost like they wake one day and go-hmmm i think i will choose this today and that tomorrow. LoL. this waiting game will drive you crazy. i just keep thinking hopeful one minute and the other minute will second guess myself like-why would they want me out of hundreds of apps. i just cant wait for the phone call to come so i know one way or another. if i dont get picked for this one or the L&D one in june, i will probably submit my application for the med/surg board one more time but after that then if i dont get picked then i will just take it as it wasn't meant to be but we will see how it goes i guess. sorry, to talk your head off. LOL. Hope to hear from you soon:)

rndiver82,

do you know whether or not the recruiters job is based on how many people get accepted or just how many people apply and submit a packet? this might be a messed up thing to think about but you know how everyone says that recruiters tell you what you want to hear just to get you to apply. well, i wonder if sometimes there are no slots available for certain times but they just tell you that there are just to get someone to submit a packet-which on their part would look good for them, you know what i mean? cause if you think about it, if they told me or you that there were no slots then no one would probably apply and that would look bad for their quota. LOL. i dont know, maybe thats just a crazy thought. I'm just trying to think of why someone like you wouldn't get picked. maybe another reason would be that they would want someone who is not as qualified as you that way they could train them themselves the way they would want them (you know how that saying goes). maybe not but i don't know. it is just insane to think about how they make their selection and what goes through their head on selection day on what they are looking for. In regards to your recruiter not getting back with you or not knowing what he is doing with your application must be really frustrating. I would be ****** if my recruiter ignored me like that. im not sure what advice to give you though. could you possible ask another recruiter or would that seem like a bad idea? Good luck to you though. talk to you soon.

hey ATLRN0828,

that would be awesome if you get in and was able to switch to ER or ICU. im not sure how easy it is to switch though but if we get in then i guess we will find out. if we get in, i would love to know what your name is so when i see you in COT training then I know who you are but i dont think we are allowed to give our name and number and stuff like that on this site, so how is anyone suppose to know who anyone really is? LOL

I wonder if the board is looking for a particular number of years experience. Maybe if that is known people will know in advance what to do...just a thought.

hey medrock,

that could be a possibility too. are you applying for the med/surg boards too?

To kdazzle.....no, not at this time because I was not able to make the deadline. I may apply next board. But good lock to all of you waiting this time.

Hey kdazzle,

i'm not really sure either how easy/hard it is to switch around the different floors. Yeah, that would be cool exchanging contact info. i believe after 15 post you can PM. so then you would be able to get the info. can you believe the time is drawing so near. the release date is friday! makes me nervous. what bases did you put on the "wish list?"

ATLRN0828,

I pretty much put down the places with the bigger hospitals cause I really dont want to work in a clinic if i dont have to. in this order- destin, las vegas, san antonio, georgia, west coast region. i wasnt too crazy about georgia and didnt know what to pick after that so my recruiter said i could just pick a region. I was trying to pick warm places. LOL. since i am from cincinnati, i didnt want to pick dayton cause i already know all about dayton and that is one of the whole points of joining the military is to see other places right? LOL. illinois didnt really appeal to me but ultimately i dont care where i go as long as i get in cause i can always transfer later. what places did you put on your wish list? this might be a dumb question but I dont know alot about these kinds of forums but what does it mean to PM someone? LOL. I also heard that the recruiters will hear results on friday (or at least they should) but im not neccessarily banking on him calling me friday cause depending on what time of day they get the info and how many people they have to call then they might not have time to call everyone on friday and might hear from him on saturday or monday if they go by buisness days. LOL. if something happens and i dont get picked, im gonna try not to take it personally cause since there are only about 22 slots and all these applicants, then the likely hood of getting picked is like winning the lottery. LOL. let me know when you hear something and i will do the same. talk to you soon.
