Hey everybody, I'm starting a thread here for those applying to the Army Nurse Corps in FY2013. I figure this might be a good place to get to know other future nurse corps officers and a place for the veterans of the ANC to pass on some advice.

Share your story and hopefully we will meet down in San Antonio this Winter/spring of 2013

Ill start with my story,

I am a 28 y/o critical care nurse with 2 years experience in a level 2 trauma center in Virignia. I passed MEPS at Ft. Eustis and have submitted security packet, letters of reference and letter of intent.

I am applying to the October review board for Active Duty Army Nurse Corps for the 66H8A(critical care) and 66T(trauma) programs( I am not sure if they are still running this one, but you don't get what you don't ask for).

I am happily married with a baby on the way, my wife is 100% behind a move the Army and I feel blessed to have her love and support.

The road to the Army has been a long one with a degree in Biology, stint as a drug rep and return for an accelerated BSN.

I love being a nurse and love working in critical care. I hope to serve my country in uniform treating service members & their families at home and in forward deployed units.

I want to be an critical care nurse and officer in the U.S. Army and I hope that I will get to meet all of you in uniform at BOLC, at MEDDAC, CSH or FST in CONUS or OCONUS.

Sounds roughly the same as last year....... only 10 direct accessions were pre-approved and they had to get approval for everyone else. Nerve-wracking, for sure... FWIW, one of our instructors said there are 48 students in next years class......

Thanks for your input Chudder. Nerve wracking is indeed the word!! It's good to have that background info to put things into perspective as we wait

my recruiter told me that today too that it is based by location now too

My recruiter also told me that they weren't told the ranking of the OML list, however that is the the 2 yrs or less experience group, but I would assume it is the same for all.

never know, some last year didnt get their orders till just a couple weeks before bolc. If I were you I would train as hard as possible to be ready for the march bolc class, just in case, unless of course you do not graduate till after that.

I am not 100% sure but I am pretty sure, that what I am about to say pertains to ANC as much as it would in most combat arms branches.

You would be amazed at how important PT is, especially for officers. A great PT score can do so much for you in your military career. I have seen some soldiers that were not proficient in their MOS, and honestly were kind of dumb, but they were PT studs , and easily got promoted faster than someone with less of a PT score but great at their jobs, and very smart and great leaders.

Know that your OER and PT are pretty much the most important things in your military career.

SO train train train like there is no tomorrow, or at least if there is a tomorrow, than there will be a pt test lol.

Thanks Nursespouse! I'm actually hoping I get into the March BOLC. I would much rather go through it in the spring than in the summer. Do you know if there is a possibility to be sent to the January BOLC, or is that unlikely due to how soon it is?

You will be lucky to get orders by January. The March BOLC is a much more reasonable target.

I agree with this! After being notified of selection on 1 December, I didn't get my orders until 9 March with a report date of 23 March. Haha! Nothing like a little stress ... I gave notice at both my civilian jobs before I got orders. Leap of faith! :D

That was going to be my next question. When would be a good time to give notice at my current job? I don't want to give it now, because I'm not leaving anytime soon. However, I don't want to tell them right before I leave either.... hmm Maybe I will just have to give them a heads up that sometime in the next few months I will be leaving.

I'm still in the dark...i don't know if I'm on any list or what's going on. This its quite frustrating. Anybody else in this position still?
