Army Nurse Corps FY2013

Published

Hey everybody, I'm starting a thread here for those applying to the Army Nurse Corps in FY2013. I figure this might be a good place to get to know other future nurse corps officers and a place for the veterans of the ANC to pass on some advice.

Share your story and hopefully we will meet down in San Antonio this Winter/spring of 2013

Ill start with my story,

I am a 28 y/o critical care nurse with 2 years experience in a level 2 trauma center in Virignia. I passed MEPS at Ft. Eustis and have submitted security packet, letters of reference and letter of intent.

I am applying to the October review board for Active Duty Army Nurse Corps for the 66H8A(critical care) and 66T(trauma) programs( I am not sure if they are still running this one, but you don't get what you don't ask for).

I am happily married with a baby on the way, my wife is 100% behind a move the Army and I feel blessed to have her love and support.

The road to the Army has been a long one with a degree in Biology, stint as a drug rep and return for an accelerated BSN.

I love being a nurse and love working in critical care. I hope to serve my country in uniform treating service members & their families at home and in forward deployed units.

I want to be an critical care nurse and officer in the U.S. Army and I hope that I will get to meet all of you in uniform at BOLC, at MEDDAC, CSH or FST in CONUS or OCONUS.

Here's to all us achieving our dreams of becoming Army Nurses!

Not sure. I've spoken with him once he's a really nice guy. He didn't offer that to my friend. He called his recruiter who looked it up, and found out that he made it.

I sent him an email, he is probably gone for the day too.... the good news is that my recruiter will be in the office in 9 hours.

That's a good way to look at it! Wishing you all the best and hope the night passes fast :)

well I guess with AECP and the ones from this board, it seems reasonable. I didnt know you had to submit retirement paperwork 12 months in advance. makes me wonder though, the nurses that were taken FY 1993 must have left in droves during this past 20 years. Makes you wonder what the retainment numbers are fr nurses for a full retirement lol.

In the past a large percentage of nurses left in 3-8 years of service. Since around 2008 or so more nurses are not getting out and hanging around longer with the way the job market is. That is one reason the recruitment numbers are down along with the drawdown. The numbers are also down for the ACEP program then in the past.

MTB and VT:

My recruiter emailed me back this am regarding the updated USAGPAN list:

**One person was selected

**9 are pending "disposition" (waivers/physical/callouts)

**14 total on the OML list (I am #3)

Sounds roughly the same as last year....... only 10 direct accessions were pre-approved and they had to get approval for everyone else. Nerve-wracking, for sure... FWIW, one of our instructors said there are 48 students in next years class......

Irishliz - I got roughly the same from my recruiter...I am on the OML as well, but, from what my recruiter said, they don't actually release the ranking on the OML anymore. He said the name are listed by location. Could be wrong though, who knows.

chudder - what was the timeline for approval off the OML list last year??

Well he said that there was a ranking at it was for the school, not just the location. He seemed very clear and definite when he discussed it with me yesterday. I questioned him thoroughly :)

One never knows though.....
