Army Nurse Corps FY2013

Published

Hey everybody, I'm starting a thread here for those applying to the Army Nurse Corps in FY2013. I figure this might be a good place to get to know other future nurse corps officers and a place for the veterans of the ANC to pass on some advice.

Share your story and hopefully we will meet down in San Antonio this Winter/spring of 2013

Ill start with my story,

I am a 28 y/o critical care nurse with 2 years experience in a level 2 trauma center in Virignia. I passed MEPS at Ft. Eustis and have submitted security packet, letters of reference and letter of intent.

I am applying to the October review board for Active Duty Army Nurse Corps for the 66H8A(critical care) and 66T(trauma) programs( I am not sure if they are still running this one, but you don't get what you don't ask for).

I am happily married with a baby on the way, my wife is 100% behind a move the Army and I feel blessed to have her love and support.

The road to the Army has been a long one with a degree in Biology, stint as a drug rep and return for an accelerated BSN.

I love being a nurse and love working in critical care. I hope to serve my country in uniform treating service members & their families at home and in forward deployed units.

I want to be an critical care nurse and officer in the U.S. Army and I hope that I will get to meet all of you in uniform at BOLC, at MEDDAC, CSH or FST in CONUS or OCONUS.

Here's to all us achieving our dreams of becoming Army Nurses!

HOOOOOOAH!

I'm still in the dark...i don't know if I'm on any list or what's going on. This its quite frustrating. Anybody else in this position still?

I cannot believe your recruiters aren't giving clear and precise answers. Get on the phone with them and do not get off, till they can tell you something definite.

Specializes in Anesthesia, SICU, CICU.

MTB, I agree. Those results were released two days ago now, you needed to get on the horn and be firm with them.

No I now know that I am on the OML list, confirmed as of yesterday. Your recruiter should have told you if you made it or not by now I would think. I agree with what was said previously...call and don't get off the phone until you get an answer. If your recruiter isn't there ask for the guy in charge of the recruiting station (sorry I'm a civilian and can't remember the title of that person).

The latest info I have is that we should know something before Christmas regarding the number of seats in the school and if we will be pulled from the OML list if things do indeed open up.

Good luck and let us know!

Hello fellow nurses!! I hope everyone's tgiving was wonderful... My waiver was approved and I am going on Friday to sign the contract!!! Is anyone else in the same boat? Any advice? Thanks!!

Specializes in EMT, ER, Homehealth, OR.

To all that have made it I would inform your supervisors very soon that you have been picked up for the Army. When you do tell them let them know that you do not know when you will be leaving for OBLC. It is always best to keep your employer informed about you leaving and put in your offical notice as soon as you get your orders. Also, even if you think that you will be making the Army a career do not quit your job and take military leave. The reason for this is if you get out before 5 years you will still have a job with that employer. You just do not know what might happen, you could decide that the Army is not your you, the military downsizes some more or you get injuried and get medically discharged. Some employers might try to make you quit but when you put in your notice have in it that you are taking military leave. It is your right under federal law and use it.

Thank you for this info Jeck. Question, when would you be eligible to board for major? If you are a Majr, just wondering how long you were captain? 6-8 years?

I am still waiting to be scrolled too. Last week my recruiter told me it could take 1-2 weeks, but today he said it could take 30-90 days! Uh!! I am not waiting on any waivers, so I'm not sure what the hold up is.
