Hey guys/gals I'm just wondering if their is anyone applying for this upcoming fy 2016 for direct commission into the navy. I guess I should have mentioned that I was referring to the nurse corps.

Is anyone else going for a direct accession? Seems many of the people on this forum went to school through the Navy. I am interested to hear who else is applying this coming up fiscal year

Nice 2 meet u ab88.

Nice to meet you too j.jones4174. I had applied for the last fy and was selected as an alternate and was told that I would be automatically rolled over into this coming fy. I was credentialed for critical care. If you don't mind me asking what are you being credentialed for?

Critical care. I bring to the table 4 years of previous active duty with 10 years of critical care experience. I also have my CCRN. I was told this would give me an excellent chance of being selected. Who knows though. Better to have tried then not at all. I also am aware that there are maybe 20 spots available for direct accessions. As if it couldnt get any harder...may i ask why u were not selected last year?

Well I'm hoping for the best for you! I'm currently working on my CCRN, it's just taking quite a bit of time haha.

I had read a few comments from many people and they say that your best chance of getting in is to get your certification. The navy is very picky and are looking for only the best. Get your CCRN as soon as possible to give you the best chance possible. Remember your competing with all of North America. You have to make yourself standout.

I was told that I was already selected and would be rolled into this upcoming fiscal year. The navy only had 7 slots for critical care last fiscal year, and for those who were alternates would be rolled into this new year.

Thats gr8 news. Stay active on this chat. By any luck you and I can attend knife and fork school together!

FYI: the AF used to do that too (roll alternates into the next cycle and give them 1st dibs on new slots). They stopped doing it the year I was an alternate. I was selected the next year, but I had to reapply; it wasn't guaranteed. As the services get more competitive, know that policies like that can easily change.

Very interesting. I had no idea what an alternate meant. Didnt even know they existed. Thanks for input

Having your CCRN will definitely make you standout. If you are neck and neck with another applicant, it becomes a "deselection" board, and if you're certified, the decision will side in your favor.

As far as rolling over to next FY, make sure your recruiter has been in contact with the PM to make sure you're squared away.
