wow! the laziness!

i'm wondering if its just me....

i work @ a snf/rehab facility and our stna's are lazy with a capital l!!!!!!

while in clinicals, i noticed that acute care aides seem to have more drive and they move when you tell them...

our aides sit around (i work night shift) and eat left over resident food, sleep and give you dirty looks when you tell them to do anything...

i have noticed this every day i have worked....

i'm ***** because im moving my behind constantly, not to mention the ridiculous documentation and when i see call lights constantly on and people on their i-phones... i get very:madface:

I understand your frustrations. Just remember who you are there for and do your best to lead by example (in the end you will feel better for doing the right thing). Don't be afraid to be assertive. Old habits die hard, but will be worth it in the end.

Are you the nurse on duty? If so..it is your job to make sure the work gets done. Time to quit complaining and do something about it.

I have seen and worked with my share of lazy nurses and CNAs, but not for long. I won't put up with it. I have a job to do and so does everyone else. You don't want to do your job..leave and I will find someone else.

Welcome....I complain about our aides all the time, but learning on Allnurses.com def. cool to vent but ultimately we just got to suck it up and keep going.

At the end of the day we are the ones who have to get the job done whether they help or not!

I certainly feel for you! Write them up that's what I do and I will keep doing every day if I had to until someone recognizes it is a problem.

The problem is that this is the norm in most LTC facilities, so moving on down the road to the next one won't necessarily fix it for you. You have to weigh keeping your job and dealing with this on a daily basis, versus leaving the LTC area. I would suggest that you write these people up, even if nothing happens, because, then, no one can accuse you of not doing every aspect of your job. And don't be afraid to keep handing those write-ups to the supervisor and keep your copy. I would calmly remind the person being written up that the pieces of paper are accumulating and will be there if a supervisor comes in who wants to clean house. No one should be in the dark about where they stand on their job.

I hear you. I worked with a few lazy ones at a hospital. I would find them on the internet or texting. Nothing like laziness to make me angry!

I complained to my boss. I kept complaining. Finally I was listened to and the surfing and texting has stopped.

One day when my boss was gone, I saw a CNA on the computer. I told him to get off. He told me that the boss wasn't there to tell him to stop.

I glared at this guy and told him he was right. The NM wasn't there, but I was as the CN and he better move now or get written up.

Funny, now that the CNA's are back where they belong, (on the floor), they complain of being overworked.

I attempted this tactic...lead by example, without much success. The CNAs in a LTC facility where I worked would let me example all night long. I led nobody anywhere. Sometimes you have to MAKE people do the right thing.

As I've learned from previous replies on AN.com in regards to lazy or incompetent RN's....." stop complaining and do do your job, you're the nurse so do it yourself. Imma super nurse so I wash all of my patients, pull them ALL up in bed, feed them, complete my charting, and all of this is done by myself"!!! The words of the super nurses on AN.com, not mine. Oh some will also tell you that just because you're a nurse doesn't mean you're above doing patient care. (yeah I know that's not what you said, but that's what they will say)

I understand your pain so all I suggest is that you write them up and while on duty five them tasks to complete, keep them busy. Your dream scenario is that the lazy aides will refuse because that should be a one way ticket out of that facility

Where I work many of the PCA's(patient care associates) which I am sure is the same thing as a CNA are lazy as well. If I am working on the floor and we are short handed with nurses and the PCA's won't help out I have no problem telling their boss(s). Call me a rat if you must but It would be nice for me to stand around, watching TV and eating snacks for free when seven call bells are going off all at the same time. I try to get to each patient as fast as I can, but some patients are very inpatient and when you finally get to them they treat you like you kicked their dog. Having a PCA show up and tell the patient their nurse is coming calms the patient down some.
