Is There Something Wrong With This Report?

Scene: Shift change. 3pm. Nurses Station in a Nursing Home. Very small blurb in communication book. No information about resident BMS. Report begins.

"So, did --- finally have a BM? He was on his 3rd day.."

"I don't know."

"You don't know? What do you mean? You were doing Meds, right?"

"Well, I wasn't the only one here."

Discuss. Do you find anything wrong with this exchange?

If she is the charge nurse she SHOULD know! She should've asked her aides or anyone else that has come into contact with that resident. If the resident is X so many days without a BM that's note worthy & the charge nurse needs to be keeping up on that. Oy. >.

We have a computer system that charts that and it's our responsibility as nurses to be checking it. And many a time ill say "nurse x did you see patient J is on the list?" They either say "yes thanks" or "no thank you for telling me!"

Really? You forgot the previous shift exchange conversation... What's up with that evening nurse? She just wants to yank my chain. I hate handing off to her. She wants to know everything! And she expects me to tell her all the stuff I (didn't) write in the book. Ugghhh! Sooo annoying!!!

No, not an assignment. It actually happened the other day... And it was an LNA,med certified. Everyone on the shift was in the room. They couldn't get out of there fast enough. :( very negative too. I get that the day is taxing.. but I just don't get the blatant apathy. And SHE is in school getting her RN ! S bit younger... Not that it should matter. Just makes me sad and frustrated.

I agree ... It gets so difficult to work with folks that just seem not to care. Kinda brings my morale down a bit. That goodness the residents are there to cheer me up. :)

I don't know whether everyone on my hall crapped. If I run the bm report I do but generally I have to say, "Ask the aide for the flow book."
