I interview for a Baylor position today. I am a new grad LPN and I was offered $16hr at LTC facility. It is a 60 bed facility very clean. I was told there are two sections A & B( 30 pts in A and 30 pts in B)and I would have a 15 patient load and the other nurse would have 15. How would I know if I'm being underpaid or not? Do you think this sounds fair considering I'm new. I met with the DON today, but will meet with the HR manager tomorrow or Monday she will have the final say on if they hire me or not and payscale. The DON had to call to find out the base pay (because the is also new), but it looks very promising. The DON said she is very interested in me. DO you guys know if there is usually a shift diff from 3 to 7 on most Baylor programs? I know each facility have their own policies on pay but should I expect a shift diff from 3 to 7pm. The shift is 7a to 7p sat and sun=32.

Thanks for any responses:p

I'm from Canada. Doesn't $16/hr seem a little low. Do you get paid weekend premiums and shift differentials? Starting wage in Manitoba for LPN's is $19+/hr $1.35/hr weekend premiums and $1.35/hr evening shift premiums and $2.00/hr night premiums.

OK...so we are all dying to know how you made out with your job offer....It's Tuesday and I haven't seen any posts. How did you make out????? :wink2:

The whole idea of a Baylor program is to get nurses to commit to weekends and they normally pay more for this. I'm not sure if a differential would come in to play, but your rate should be higher.

Treatments in LTC...creams for rashes, creams or ointments for peri area, dressing changes on decubs, skin tears, surgical incisions, g tubes, IV dressing changes. We also have splint/ brace checks, alarm checks and checks for positioning devices on our Treatment books (TAR) . Opps we also include changing the foley or g tubes prn)

So how did it go?

Not sure on the LPN wages, but the staffing ratio is great....I'd kill for 15 patients! What are your other duties?

I agree. Fifteen pts to one nurse is awesome!

LPNs new grads start @ $10.00- $11.00 an hour in my area, and they get a whole lot more than 15 pts.

I will not receive a pay increase. I was told that I would receive a raise after 90days. I called another nursing home about 20 miles away that offers baylor and I told the human resources manager that I was a new grad that was considering baylor and I had been made an offer and I asked was the pay scale at that particular facility. I did let her know that I was trying to make sure I wasn't underpaid for the area. She said if I told her what I was offered she would let me know if I was being underpaid. She told me $16 was about right for a new grad, she then told me I would get $16.75 at that particular facility. I know that facility has 140 patients. I'm ok with my pay since I called 2 of the 3 facilites that openly advertise for Baylor in this area. I did except the job and I was told that the were only 5 or 6 treatments total in the facility. The recruiter also said they rarely keep 60patients, she says its usually hangs at 56. I think I will feel more comfortable starting in a smaller facility. We did talk about a few of the facilities problems. She stated she had a hard time staffing 3 to 11 and the nurses that did work that shift tend to call out. She also said they were working on that problem. She had a couple of nurses that had bad habits and they didn't see to try to correct them. She said she liked new nurses because she could train them properly, many don't bring bad habits with them. I'm going to see how this play out. I don't want to be a job hopper. I know there may be things I don't see until I get involved. The recruiter is also over staffing and employee education. Pray for me

Oh!! my floor orientation will be extremely short 3 days, but she told me if I needed more that it was no problem.:uhoh21:

Sounds like you made a good decision. Good luck.

Specializes in LTC, ER, ICU, Psych, Med-surg...etc....
Regardless if you're a new grad or not you should still receive a higher wage because it's EVERY weekend (you couldn't pay me enough to work every weekend :chuckle ) & more $$ is the highlight of the program. Ask for more $$ - it can't hurt! Check into some other facilities that offer the Baylor program & compare.

Good luck!

P.S. - Tx is treatment

I agree. If you are giving up every weekend, there should be more incentive for that. Most Baylor positions pay top $$, but usually no shift diff cause of the higher pay.

That's really horrible! Supermarket shelf stockers (say that 3 times quickly) make $11/hour here overnights. My CNAs start at 10 something.

i live here in mississippi and was offered a ltc lpn job being the charge nurse making $15 a hr. 7a - 3p. new grad. nurse

Hi! I have been a LPN for 20 years. I am in South Carolina. I work Home Health and make $16.00/hr. I am going to a LTC facility for $16.69 PLUS .75 an hour for nights! work 4 and get paid for 5. Am I getting screwed or what?

I think that's odd I am a new grad graduation date 8/1/05 passed boards on 8/25/05 and my first job offered 16/hr for baylor. Things didn't work out there. I applied for a new job today was offered 17/h for 3 to11. The base for NEW grads is 14/h I got $3.00 shift diff for 3 to 11. With 20 years of experience you should be getting much more especially in LTC
