So, have you, or do you know much about one that did close?

I am just wondering how often that it really does happen. I only know off the top of my head, of 3-4 nursing homes in my state that have closed down in the past few years.

I have a friend who worked at a skilled facility that closed. Without giving too much info, the patients they had there were very complex and not really suitable for any kind of facility. They did the best they could finding beds nearby, ut some of the patients had to move hundreds of miles away. It was heart breaking for them and the staff.

Three places I worked at have closed. And there are several more in the state that have closed, and several other operating at about 50% capacity, so that's not boding well for their future.

I worked in California many many years ago. All of us employees were told weeks before closing that we weren't going to close down and not to worry about anything. The administrator then quit his job and the next day the place closed down for good.

One of my former workplaces closed back in the early part of 2011. This nursing home was a bottom-of-the-barrel type of facility that accepted residents that most other places would immediately reject.

To give you an idea of how bad the place was, one of their last open-book surveys resulted in 47 deficiencies and 8 IJ (immediate jeopardy) tags.
