Who else is starting 2nd Semester Nursing Program in January?

Nursing Students General Students

OK, so I keep feeling as if it was luck (and the grace of God) that I passed the first semester. I know I studied hard and organized my time properly but why was it that so many other people struggled. I have no clue about how many students we lost but I know one person had to get a 95 on the final to pass the class. (She did and I was so happy for her!!!) I love nursing school so far and I can't wait to start back.

We got our course books early and I've been reading ahead this week to get a head start. I have to have 9 chapters done by Monday:uhoh21: . This semester we have 5 weeks of clinical rotation in L&D and 5 weeks in psych. School starts Monday Jan 5th!!

How are you feeling and preparing for 2nd semester?

Specializes in Critical Care / Psychiatry.

I'm nervous, but excited and confident nonetheless.

I start back Jan 25th and I'm already dreading going back. :p

Specializes in OB-Gyn/Primary Care/Ambulatory Leadership.

Me! Enjoying break, but looking forward to getting back into it, especially since February is when our local hospital is doing externship interviews for those of us in 2nd semester.

I start L&D next week around the 20th. Scared about going back but should be no problem with the wee ones.

Hopefully I will get to see a birth.

I am excited to go back. Our 4 wek break has seemed sooooo looonnngggg. We start back on Jan 18 so I still have a little while to go. I have been doing my homework assignments for next semester so that I am not overwhelmed with clinicals and all of our other course work! Good luck to those starting again on Monday!

I'm starting my second semester on Monday. I'm excited to go back, but I just got the reading assignment and the first chapter is Assessing Clients with Bowel Disorders. What a, um, crappy way to start off the semester. :chuckle

The real reason I am excited is that we are doing OB the second 7 weeks!

Wow, you guys definitely attend a different nursing school than I do. Excited about going back to class? This past semester I was counting down the days until the semester was over.

I enjoy the content I study and have enjoyed my clincials thus far, however, the professors in the program are a different story. I understand nursing school should be difficult but they take it a step further. Most (not all) have this attitude about them. I honestly felt as if I was a 12 year old boy in Catholic School surrounded by an abrasive and flat out mean group of nuns.

Hopefully things will get better this semester. If not then I only have 14 months left

Specializes in Med Surg/Tele/ER.

I too am excited about going back. I have psyc the first 8wks then ob with micro thrown in the mix. This is gonna be a long 16wks my classes start at 9a & my last one is over at 6p. I do have a break in between but I live too far away to go home. By the way how many days a week does everyone go to school/clinicals? Good Luck to everyone

I too have been counting down the days of my past semester, and have been ENJOYING my 4 week break! Don't get me wrong I am TRYING to learn and REMEMBER all the materials, but at the same time I'm ready to get done w/this next semester, because I will be graduating I don't know about some of you but I currently work @ a hospital on med-surg/tele and wonder what the heck I'm getting myself into (becoming and RN) and beat myself up for not feeling that I know enough!!

We generally have class 1 day a week and have clinicals 2 days a week.

I took off 12/15 - 12/27 and then started doing my skills presemester for the spring. My school allows you to get your clinical skills done and certified during the winter and summer prior to semesters after the first semester. So I am done and signed off with NG tube placement, enteral feedings, IV therapy, Bandage and Binders, Urostomy and Colostomy care, Enemas, and Male and Female Foley Catherization...A big weight off my chest and huge time saving once the semester starts. Now I just have to go to 6 hours of lecture and 10 hours of clinical a week plus all the written assignments...

We start back up the week on 1/24. I have NUR141 which is Psych and NUR142 which is Med/Surg. The Med/Surg component is supposed to be a killer...some refer to it as the weedout class. Not sure what that means, I got an A- and a B+ in my first two classes last semester and some failed out, so to me they are all weedout classes. Those grades really pissed me off. I had a 3.93 going into the semester with a bunch of A's and a couple A-'s through 30 credits of prereqs. I worked pretty hard, thought I was prepared and only got the grades I got...What sucks is that your clinical portion of each class only counts as a pass or fail. Your grade is solely based on the average of your exam grades in the coresponding lectures. So while I got excellent and above average written reviews from my clinical instructors that pass counted the same as someone who barely passed clinical by the skin of their butt...Not sure if it should be that way, but it is.

Looking forward to starting back up. I output all of my drug info. I have to know a total of 75 drugs for both classes...:crying2:...plus all the rest of the stuff. I am not the nervous type but this semester has me thinking about it a little.

Good luck to all, dave :)

I have class from 8-2 on Monday's and Wedesnday and clinical on Friday's.

The first 5 weeks we'll be in OB and the following 5 weeks we'll be in Psyc.

I'm in an ADN program.
