So, we had an exam on Friday, and this morning (Sunday) I was congratulated on my test score by another student. Funny thing though, I haven't told a soul what my test score was.

The way we find out our exam scores is by computer. You go to the NS website and punch in your ID number, and your test scores pop up. I'm wondering if someone has my ID number and has been looking at my confidential info?

I've seen the ugly side of other students when you're doing really well. I've been called an "overachiever", not invited to study sessions, asked to do poorly on a test so others look better, and told that "all the pretty girls got As in that class" when first of all, I'm almost forty and don't consider myself all that pretty, and second of all, I studied my tail off for that A.

So. I want to say something to the NS faculty because I am disturbed that my confidentiality has been broken, however I want it kept quiet so I don't get a raft of poop for being a tattle tale or goody goody type. There is a lot of pressure for students to stick together.

Thoughts? Discuss!!!!

I understand the pressure to stick together, but that's your CONFIDENTIAL information. They always preach to us the importance of not violating HIPAA in the clinical setting and I can't see where this is much different. If someone can get into your test scores, it worries me what else they can get into, KWIM? I would have to say something to the department about it. Maybe they could just assign you a new ID or password? That would be a way that no one else would have to know about and should remedy the situation as well.

BTW, congrats on your A!!!;)

Hmmmmm someone must have your ID to find out your score.

:nono:Most unprofessional of anyone to even think of that.

If it were me I would not be happy at all. I don't mind sharing but I refuse to have my confidentiality broken like that.. Bad Bad Bad!

As frustrating as it is, the entire class always seems to find out who received the highest score. Our teachers often post scores with ranges from highest to lowest grade to show that the 'test was sound' (meaning that it followed the rule of stats showing a bell curve) or they will tell disgruntled students what the range of the scores was. In theory it is to eliminate the arguments by students trying to get various questions thrown out of the exam. Don't think that getting an 'A' in college courses should be embarrassing! but I agree that grades should be private. Hopefully nobody has your password information.

I would PERSONALLY go to the instructor and tell them of the situation. This is a blatant student confidentiality issue. Let me also say that I would REMIND the instructor they are teaching us HIPAA laws and IF the students cannot conduct themselves with confidentiality as students how on earth can they be trusted with patient information. It disgusts me that potential nurses are conducting themselves this way with information that has not even be given out by you. I would NOT let this slide. If need be see the school administration. If instructors are posting test information in ANY state they can as well, be prosecuted for breaking confidentiality laws. You can go to your instructor ANYWHERE and say DO NOT PRINT my information, if they do, they can be held liable and should. My information is called mine because that is who it is intended for. I feel sorry for these students future patients.

Go to the faculty, or write them an e-mail and say you want to keep this confidential.

I wouldn't want someone looking at my personal info.

What is this code that you have to enter? Is it your SS number? Birthday? ...

Did the student say specifically "congrats on your 98%" or whatever you got, or was it more of a snarky "congrats on your high grade, overachiever"? They might have just assumed you had a high grade because of your reputation..it may not actually be a breach of confidentiality. At any rate, keep up the hard work, and seriously, congratulations on the A! :)

I hate it when people are bitter about someone's success!! :angryfire That's a bunch of women for you though, always have to compete and knock someone down for doing better than they are. Here I thought that would have stopped after highschool graduation! You could always just tell the nursing department that you feel your online information has been compromised and ask to have a new ID or even just a new password assigned. Congrats on your good grades!! Keep up the good work and let those other students be jealous of your grades and your good looks!! :)

Did they know your specific score instead of just knowing you got an "A" which people could just assume? If someone knows your specific score you need to tell the instructor and get new passwords ASAP.

Why not ask the student how she knew what your score was? That would have been the most direct thing to do. Go ask her how she found out.

Specializes in ER; HBOT- lots others.

1. Ask that student, confront and "conflict resolve" from clinicals and fundamentals.

2. Talk to a trusted instructor and bring this problem up. The tech staff at school should be able to see when and where the student logged in if this did happen, and you will know for 100% sure you didnt do it in your sleep. (just kidding about the last part, trying to be a tad funny).

3. Change everything PRONTO. have the tech ppl do it and change everything from your name to log on and passes into the system itself.

gl!!

Now you will have to PM me and let me know what happened! lol

I did.

They knew my exact numerical test score.

There is no way to see who has logged in. The platform stinks, and the new one will be password protected.

For now, I have a new ID number.
