on the verge of a nervous breakdown

I've been working at my job for 4 yrs, this year will be 5. I'm working full time, and in an ASN program at a hospital. I am having a blast in nursing school, and I'm loving every minute of it. But my fulltime job consumes so much of my precious time.

Im only taking one class which is a nursing core class worth 7 credits. Its comprised of lab, lecture and clinicals. The reading is twice as much as i had my first semster ( from 3 different books) and i have twice as much paper work (i.e care plans, concept maps) the works to hand in for clinicals.

To make a long story short, im at my witts end, and am ready to quit my job. I'm thinking of quitting in septemeber to be honest. I hate being here, today is not even a heavy busy day, and i spent most of my time holding back tears. I'm so miserable.

I'm not sure how living loans work, im not sure how those out there, who are not working but still have rent and bills to pay are surviving.

I just need ideas, encoragement, something.

I feel like i am on the verge of a nervous break down.

Hey Mystiqx

How about asking to go part time so you could cut down on the load you have right now. If all else fails and working full time and part time is still to much, the only other way is that I see is taking out a loan to survive on until you graduate Nursing school.

Calm down , please dont make a quick descions on the account of your emotions at the moment. You do have other options that you could fall back on if you choose to leave your job.

mystiqx,

Hey there, sorry that you're having such a hard time right now. I agree with the above poster that you could ask to go part time (if that's an option). Also, you could reseach scholarships and grants in your area, and any hospitals that would be willing to pay your tuition in exchange for work committment. I don't know what state you're in, but I wanted to mention that some states have loan forgiveness programs. Good luck to you, I hope everthing works out and that you get some piece of mind. Keep us posted.

Have you filled out the FAFSA form for federal aid? If not, this is a good starting point, and can be done online at www.fafsaonline.com. Once that is done, it opens avenues for scholarships, grants and loans. In addition to tuition & books, these funds can be used for living expenses if you are an independant student (over age 24 or married).

Hope this helps.

I go with this....go down to part-time...fill out your FASFA and see what you can get in student loans...PRONTO! I have 2 private loans equaling 18000...and student loans of 9000....and I'm still working....Have to. I spent 6 months without working and just could not swing it with the budget....car repairs, new car having to be bought, etc....just takes time ya know? Keep the faith!

I got a loan from sallie mae...look them up and apply online....they offer deferred loans you don't have to start making payments on until after you graduate!

Start with your school financial aid office first. Any loans, grants, scholarships you get from them will be FAR less expensive overall than going to a private lender (for the most part). Then, if you can't make it working part-time or your employer won't work with you, start looking for a hospital job and take out whatever loans you need. Keep in mind these will be LOANS and will reduce the amount of your paychecks for a few years once you are graduated and working.

If this truly is a career you want to move to, then you will need to do whatever it takes to get there.

Someone has at the bottom of their postings a saying similar to:

I didn't say it would be easy, but it will be worth it.

Keep that thought close to your heart and just keep muddling through!! Know you've got lots of folks out here rooting for you!!

Yes, talk to your financial aid office, they usually have the best ideas. For awhile I was working weekend overnights at a hospital answering phones that allowed me time to study, maybe you could look into something like that.
