Useful Apps for Nursing

With technology being as advanced as it is these days, I've heard of many nurses and nursing students using their smartphones for medical resources. Personally I have the IPhone and have been looking at suggestions for nursing student apps. I start in the Fall 2012 so I haven't been able to test these out yet. When I do, I'll update this but I would also like to hear from other nursing students about their favorite and most useful nursing apps! The ones I have so far are:

-Flashcardlet (links with quizlet.com which lets you create and share flash cards. also has a banks of flashcards made by others. you can test on spelling and make multiple choice tests to quiz yourself!)

-Lippincotts Q&A - NCLEX Review apps (I have four of them: Health Assessment, MedSurg, Pathophys, and NCLEX Review)

-Prognosis (lets you run tests and treat case studies)

-Eponyms

-Epocrates

Best of all, all of these apps were free! Which is great for us starving nursing students :)

Nursing Central app from unbound medicine has SAVED MY LIFE. It has Davis' Drug Guide, Davis' Lab and Diagnostic Tests, Diseases and Disorders: a Nurse's Theraputics Manual, Handbook of Nursing Diagnosis (aaaaaaaamazing), RNotes: Nurse's Clinical Pocket Guide, and Taber's 21st edition.

I have a WORLD of information right in my pocket during clinical. I kid you not, it saved hours and hours on clinical paperwork and careplans. I also loaded it onto my kindle fire. It's so good I'll spend free time just searching for stuff and looking up weird diseases until I'm lost down the rabbit hole of information.

We get it for free this year through a technology grant at my school but when it's up in August, I'm paying for it. It's absolutely worth it.

I also have an iphone....I just finished my Intro semester. I have Davis Drug Guide, Davis Lab and Diagnostic Tests, and Tabers that I used a lot in clinical....especially the drug guide! Didn't have to drag books to clinical. I obtained them free due to purchasing the hardback copies of these books and recieved a free 1 year subscription. At the end of the year I will switch over to Nursing Central and will have what the above poster talked about. I have an app called Micromedex...sometimes I use it over Davis. I have Epocretes, Eponyms, and Medscape.

I'm using Skyscape - it has Davis' among other things. It's been super helpful.

I second Micromedex! Used it all the time at clinicals to look up meds! I also have Murmur pro (which is a $ one, but helped with cardiac!), there is also a Saunders NCLEX Q's app (free), and of course all nurses! :nurse:

It's not an app but I read from someones blog about quizlet.com. It's really cool and helpful since I'm trying to review A&P before nursing school starts and as I've been surfing around I've seen tons of flashcards for nursing as well. You can even make your own on their. It's pretty cool.

@BrittRN2B14 - I actually read the same blog! I checked it out and I agree... very cool! The only thing that I hesitate about is using other peoples flashcards. There's no check to make sure they are 100% correct, so I try to keep that in mind. And the app called "flashcardlet" links quizlet.com flashcards to your phone so that you can study anywhere!

I can't find the free saunder app. :(

I am a fan of micromedex too, I've had it installed for sometime just to look up my own meds and those for my family and friends.
